TO HAVE GREAT FAITH INVOLVES TAKING “RISKS”
I
heard the testimony of a friend’s wife who once visited a hospital to have a
scan and the result came that she had fibroid.
To
the amazement of the doctor, the lady tore the results and said, “This report
is not for me because I am pregnant.”
True
to her confession, the lady went for a scan at another place months later and
it was confirmed that she was indeed pregnant. Again, she went back to the
earlier hospital where she was told she had a fibroid and this time around the
results showed she was pregnant!
Dear
friend, what this lady displayed is how faith works. Yes, the results did show
she had fibroid but because she rejected it and held on to her belief that she
was pregnant, her faith moved God to act on her behalf to confirm it as a baby.
There
is also another testimony of a lady who was pregnant and the scan showed it was
a baby boy but she wanted a baby girl. She prayed to God for a miracle and
scans still showed that she was carrying a baby boy.
However,
she continued to pray and in the eighth month of her pregnancy after taking
part in a church program where a word of wisdom was given by the preacher from
God concerning her case, she went for a scan and the results this time showed a
baby girl, which she gave birth to successfully.
This
is the kind of faith most Christians never have because it involves taking
risks like the first case where the lady tore the laboratory results and held
on to her belief that she was carrying a baby and not fibroid.
God’s
Word tells us in Mark 9:23, “all things can be (are possible)
to him who believes!”
This is a profound statement from
our Lord Jesus Christ. It is clear that whatever you believe in your mind is
what you will get in life.
This is why the lady who was told
she had a fibroid believed she was carrying a baby and a baby she got.
This is why great faith involves
taking “risks.” Notice that I have placed the word risks in inverted commas.
Having great faith may involve
taking risks to the person who observes it but to the person demonstrating
great faith, it is borne out of a definite understanding that what you believe in
your mind is what would eventually happen to you regardless of any adverse or
contrary situation at any moment prior to your receiving what you have believed.
Fortunately, God’s Word in the
Bible confirms this fact and since we know God’s Word is Truth and forever
settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89), then this is pleasant news to discover.
Dear friend, if you understand
these things, if you have a genuine relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ,
then you really have nothing to worry or fear about in life as long as you are
able to read your Bible, believe it and practise what it says.
Everything is possible to the
person who has great faith – who believes in Jesus Christ and who knows that Jesus
Christ can do all things.
May the good Lord bless you as you
heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Powerful
Name, Amen.
