THE STORY OF ABRAHAM'S SEARCH FOR A CHILD - A LESSON IN FAITH

All over the world, there are married couples who are deep in search of the fruit of the womb. They have tried so many hospitals and traditional means of conceiving a baby all without success. Every now and then we hear of a miracle - a couple whom God has blessed with a baby or babies after 5 or 10 or 15 or even 20 or more years of waiting! The search for a baby in Africa and other developing nations usually assumes a frightening and desperate dimension because of wrong and sometimes superstitious beliefs in the community. Women are usually taunted, rebuked, insulted and labelled all sorts of names all because of inability to conceive. The men on the other hand are usually spared such emotional torture because the belief is that it is the woman who is unable to bear a child to continue the man's genealogy. The men are usually advised to go and try 'elsewhere', meaning take another wife or sleep with another woman so the man can have kids to continue his l...

ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN MAGICIANS? REALLY?

I was watching a Christian Television station sometime ago when I saw someone who introduced himself in the programme as a magician and a member of the Association of Christian magicians. He went ahead to defend his submission that one could be a magician and a Christian and that there was nothing wrong with it! Dear friend, I have said it repeatedly in several posts that on any issue, it does not matter what people say or think. As long as God's Word says something about a matter, a Christian will do himself or herself good to find out what God says by studying the Bible. This is why God says man shall not live by bread alone but man lives by every Word God has spoken (Deuteronomy 8:3b; Matthew 4:4). Jesus Christ, our Lord and Messiah, who is also The Word of God, tells us about the last days in Matthew 24:11 "Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many." Jesus also says in Matthew 24:24 "For false christs and false prophets will ris...

THE BEST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN TO ANY HUMAN BEING

Dear friend, if I were to ask you what was the best thing that could happen to you, I'm sure a simple majority of respondents would talk about money. Some would talk about career, some would talk about marriage to their dream partner, some would talk about having kids, some would talk about paying off a debt or having a dream home or office. Some may even talk about achieving a political ambition - becoming their country's Senator, President, Prime Minister, Governor, etc. While all these intentions appear noble and noteworthy, let us consider what our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ says in Luke 12:15 "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses." The Lord Jesus then goes on to tell His listeners the Parable of the Rich fool who worked so hard to store up riches for himself while acknowledging himself as the one who achieved it and when he wanted to relax from his hard work to e...

MUST A CHRISTIAN PAY TITHES?

A lot of Christians are usually offended when the subject of tithes is raised. Another area of offence is when members of the Church are called to make free will donations to Church projects. Some Christians see tithes as money that the priest or pastor is raising for his personal use. Such people therefore feel that payment of tithes is optional or that they are enriching the pastor or priest when they pay tithes. Some others believe their income is too small to include tithes and so when they pay tithes, their income that could be used for some other expense is reduced by the tithe payment or freewill donation. What is important to note here is that tithe is 10% OR a tenth of one's income as a salary earner OR a tenth of one's profits as a business person. There are people who pay tithe when it is convenient for them, that is, when their expense for the month will accommodate tithe payment. Some others who collect loans that they pay back monthly from th...

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR GOD GIVEN TALENT?

In today's world, people are engaged in varied professions - entertainment, sports, education, science, politics, pastoral, trading, etc. In most of these professions, the practitioners are usually interested in one thing: advancing their own interest and making money in the process. In fact, there are people who have called themselves self-made millionaires or billionaires. To such individuals, they have made success of life by their sheer hard work. Some talk about luck and discuss how lucky that man or that woman is, to have made a fortune in their chosen profession. It is only very few people who ever acknowledge God as the One who has made the success possible. It is because of this tendency of failing to acknowledge the Almighty, that God reminded the Israelites in Deuteronomy 8:18, "And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is ...
