The Holy Bible tells us in Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." Dear friend, at times I am baffled by some comments I hear from Christians about issues of life. In Africa, it is common amongst elderly people, especially the womenfolk to believe that when a young lady is of age but not married and is finding it difficult to get a life partner, the "sensible" thing for her to do is to sleep with a man, get pregnant and have a baby to take care of her in her old age. Looking at the Scripture reference in Proverbs 14:12, one can clearly see that such advice to a young unmarried maiden is a way of death. Looking at the advice, we see the under listed issues: (1) Fornication is involved - a sin against God's commands (Hebrews 13:4). (2) What if the lady dies during fornication? (3) What if she loses the pregnancy? (4) What if she has a medical problem and never gets pregnant after...

While I was growing up in my parents' home, every Christmas, my dad at a point started a tradition of buying a live goat on the eve of Christmas to be slaughtered on December 25 and another live goat on the eve of New Year to be slaughtered on January 1. This was in addition to other goodies we got then as gifts. There was always so much to eat and drink. This was the experience I had in my family home about the season of Christmas and even in today's world, so many people have similar beautiful stories to tell about Christmas. Dear friend, in many parts of the world, people are hustling and bustling trying to raise money to celebrate the Christmas season. Parents want to buy goodies for their kids, companies pay bonuses, and so much love and joy fills the air. This is the good side of Christmas because this happens every year. This is also the material side of Christmas. There is a spiritual side of Christmas, which is the real reason for the event people are celebrating. Christmas is about Christ Jesus, the Messiah and King of the Universe. When Adam and Eve fell by satan's deceit and disobeyed God's command, mankind became separated from God by that single act of sin. God loves man so much and sent His Only begotten Son to the world, to die for our sins and redeem mankind from eternal damnation in hell fire. The Word of God tells us in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." If you look at today's world, you will notice that moral values have declined to an alarming level with very, very few people having the fear of God. Today, vice looks right and virtue appears the wrong way to go. The reason this is so is because parents and families have neglected this important Scripture verse in Proverbs 22:6. Fathers and mothers are so caught up with providing for the material needs of their children whilst totally neglecting their spiritual needs!
