CHRISTMAS - THE BEST SEASON IN THE WORLD
While
I was growing up in my parents' home, every Christmas, my dad at a point
started a tradition of buying a live goat on the eve of Christmas to be slaughtered
on December 25 and another live goat on the eve of New Year to be slaughtered
on January 1.
This
was in addition to other goodies we got then as gifts. There was always so much
to eat and drink. This was the experience I had in my family home about the
season of Christmas and even in today's world, so many people have similar
beautiful stories to tell about Christmas.
I
have heard stories of elderly people who said it was only on Christmas day they
ate rice or wore their best clothes to Church while growing up as kids.
Even
in the office environment, we see organizations dish out so many goodies and
bonuses to their staff. Some organizations even pay the December remuneration
early enough to allow their staff prepare well for Christmas.
In
the Church environment, Christmas carol concerts are organized by the various
Choirs who render beautiful songs about the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ.
I
can also recollect one year as a child when the community I resided in decided
to go round each home singing Christmas carols to entertain members.
Homes
and offices are usually lit with decorations, Christmas trees, cards, lights,
and so on and so forth.
There
is usually so much giving and shower of love during the season of Christmas.
Dear
friend, if you take time to reflect on all I have written so far about the
season of Christmas, one thing would be clear to you: the season of Christmas
is unique and cannot be compared with any other season in the entire calendar
of every year.
In
very many cities of the world, Christmas is celebrated with a lot of fanfare.
One thing should be clear in all this, and that is, the season of Christmas is
simply the best in the world.
Can
you think of any other period of the year that brings so much joy to people
than the season of Christmas? I believe, just like me, you cannot come up with
any other period of the year more joyous than Christmas.
I
have good news for you dear friend - the season of Christmas is unique and the
best simply because it is about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The
very essence of Christmas is the celebration of the fulfilment of God's promise
to mankind to send a Saviour into the world to redeem us from the sin of
disobedience by Adam and Eve at the beginning in the Garden of Eden.
If
God did not have mercy to send us His only begotten Son to die for our sins,
the entire world would have been doomed to perish forever in hell fire with
satan who deceived man to fall in the first place.
Mankind
died spiritually with the sin of Adam and Eve and every human being born into
the world came with the same spiritual deadness inherited from Adam and Eve,
our first parents.
Christ
Jesus had to come to die on the Cross of Calvary to break the spiritual
deadness and restore mankind to reconciliation with God. Christ was born into
the world for this very purpose.
This
is what Christians celebrate on Christmas day - the birth of Christ Jesus into
the world.
With
all the fanfare, gifts, showers of love and sinful practices many undertake in
today's world, Christmas is about the love God showed us through His Son, our
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Let
us therefore forever be grateful to God for what He did for us as we celebrate
every Christmas.
Christ
Jesus came to die for everyone and not just Christians alone. It is therefore
imperative for everyone to understand this fact and rejoice in what Christ
Jesus did by His sacrificial death on the Cross of Calvary.
Every
human being can ONLY be free of the spiritual deadness inherited from Adam and
Eve by believing genuinely in what Jesus did on the Cross of Calvary, repenting
from sin, confessing and forsaking sin, accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and
living a life in strict obedience to Jesus' commands as contained in the Holy
Bible, the Word of God.
Dear
friend, this is what Christians should explain to themselves and non-Christians
alike. This is what our Lord Jesus Christ expects us to do - spread the Good
News or Gospel of Repentance and Salvation so every human being, irrespective
of race, skin colour, occupation, social status, etc will understand the
essence of Christmas and celebrate it with so much respect for God Almighty.
Now,
dear friend, you know the uniqueness of Christmas, the beauty of Christmas and
the very essence of Christmas. Will you keep the Good News to yourself or share
it with others as I have just done?
May
the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with
others in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.
Gabriel
Ama.
