31/12/2016 - TAKING STOCK OF 2016 AND PREPARING FOR 2017

Dear people of God, we thank God Almighty for His mercies and blessings over our lives in the last 365 days of 2016 and on this last day of the year. I know some people would want to take stock of their lives during this year and then decide on how they would operate in 2017. Such stock taking would involve different areas of lives, most especially financial and relationships with people. The most important stock for any sensible person to take is of his or her spiritual life. The reason is simple: a person's spiritual life determines the direction of his or her physical life. A person's spiritual life eventually determines where the person will stay during eternity in the afterlife. It is a fact of life that most people, if not all, want a better life. They are therefore eager to do all within their power to achieve that better life. I want to make it clear to all reading this piece that you can become whatever you want to become in life as long as you are am...

CHRISTMAS DAY

1 John 4:14. "And [besides] we ourselves have seen (have deliberately and steadfastly contemplated) and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son [as the] Savior of the world." Dear friends, today, Sunday December 25, 2016, Christians the world over commemorate and celebrate one of the greatest spiritual events this universe has seen - the birth of the Messiah Jesus Christ, Who left His glory in heaven to become a human being for one singular purpose - to die for the sins of mankind, redeem mankind from the works of the devil and reconcile mankind back to God. I tell you, this is worth celebrating. However, majority of Christians today are only focused on the commercial and material side of the celebration and not the spiritual side, which is most important. Please go to Church with your families today and thank God for what He did when He sent His only begotten Son to this sinful world for the reason I have mentioned above. If you choose to celebrate ...

THE LOST SOUL

Today in my Church we started a 3-day 2016 December retreat program. I had gone out yesterday to share out the invitation flyers to the program when I came across a fellow who rejected it whilst claiming he was an atheist. He was just the second person I had wanted giving it to when he said he won't come and gave his reason. I immediately took interest in him and tried to find out why he had taken such a decision, this year, according to him. He went on to talk about how churches preach about prosperity and nothing else. He also mentioned how religion was the cause of the problem of this world and in spite of all I said in the short time we discussed, I could hardly make sense of what he was saying. He spoke about politicians, religion and corruption and I wondered what the link was. He said churches were springing up everywhere and yet the members were committing evil also. At the end of the day I managed to tell him not to look up to humans for help (Jeremiah 1...

WHY DO YOU GO TO CHURCH? (2)

2 Timothy 2:19 “Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God [which He has laid] stands [sure and unshaken despite attacks], bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord stand apart from wickedness and withdraw from wrongdoing.” Dear people of God, in my last post on this topic, we read of my encounter with the man who came begging for help and who on further engagement informe d me that he went to Church for survival. Sadly though, there are many today who go to Church for same or even worse reasons. Many go to Church because they want to take advantage of others since they know a message of love, tolerance and forgiveness is preached in Church. Once they are able to defraud a brother or sister, they stop coming to Church and look for the next congregation to execute their evil plan again and again. Some go to church as agents of satan to destabilize the congregation. They come ready to cast spells to m...

WHY DO YOU GO TO CHURCH?

1 Samuel 2:3b “For the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed (examined).” Dear people of God, today’s topic sounds rather controversial but we will know why shortly. While I lived in sin, I avoided Church like a plague because in my mind I held the belief that the Church was a place for saints and not sinners. When Jesus Christ in His infinite mercy and love arrested me, I started attending Church and was shocked to still find many who are yet to allow the Word of God change them to new beings as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17. As one of my pastors said some time ago, the church is the place where satan visits the most to try to destabilize the regenerated in Christ Jesus so you are bound to see strange characters there and this should not come as a surprise. On Sunday December 4, 2016, my gate at home was opened and I entered my vehicle to reverse out of the compound to make way for my neighbour to go out. Behold, ...

THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND

Luke 6:39 He (Jesus) also told them a parable: “Can a blind man guide [another] blind man? Will they not both fall into a hole in the ground?” Dear people of God, I’m always amazed at the zeal with which members of congregation defend their pastors whose lives clearly violate God’s laws. How can you defend a pastor who is an adulterer or divorcee or an embezzler of church funds? Is God’s Word in the Holy Bible not clear that these are sins? What message would an adulterer or divorcee pastor pass to his congregation about the sanctity of marriage? Is it not written in the Holy Bible that one who aspires to the role of a Church overseer must be able to manage his household? – 1 Timothy 3:5 Verse 7 of the same 1 Timothy 3 states thus about an overseer, “And he must have a good reputation and be well thought of by those outside the church, so that he will not be discredited and fall into the devil’s trap.” If people outside a pastor’s congregation have facts about h...
