THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND
Luke 6:39
He (Jesus) also told them a parable: “Can a blind man guide [another] blind man? Will they not both fall into a hole in the ground?”
Dear people of God, I’m always amazed at the zeal with which members of congregation defend their pastors whose lives clearly violate God’s laws.
How can you defend a pastor who is an adulterer or divorcee or an embezzler of church funds? Is God’s Word in the Holy Bible not clear that these are sins?
What message would an adulterer or divorcee pastor pass to his congregation about the sanctity of marriage? Is it not written in the Holy Bible that one who aspires to the role of a Church overseer must be able to manage his household? – 1 Timothy 3:5
Verse 7 of the same 1 Timothy 3 states thus about an overseer, “And he must have a good reputation and be well thought of by those outside the church, so that he will not be discredited and fall into the devil’s trap.”
If people outside a pastor’s congregation have facts about him or her as being dishonest, disgraceful, notorious and scandalous, is it not evidence enough to members of his congregation that something is not right?
I know the usual comment will now pop into the mind of someone reading this about not judging others so we would not be judged; however, let it be clear that one can only deceive man and himself or herself but not God.
It is written in 1 Corinthians 5:11, “But actually, I have written to you not to associate with any so-called [Christian] brother if he is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an idolater [devoted to anything that takes the place of God], or is a reviler [who insults or slanders or otherwise verbally abuses others], or is a drunkard or a swindler--you must not so much as eat with such a person.”
For those who are quick to say “don’t judge” because they don’t want to hear the truth, it is clear from this Bible text that you can judge a professed Christian leader who is leading an immoral life.
How do you judge the person? It is by pointing out the evil to him or her in line with God’s Word.
Take note, however, that you should not cause a scandal or disunity in the congregation but speak privately to the person and if he or she refuses to heed the advice, then you quietly leave the sinful fellowship gathering for one where God’s Word is preached and practised.
What many Christians today fail to realize is that God’s presence cannot be in a place called a church where the leader’s life violates God’s laws in the Holy Bible.
The danger with remaining with a blind church leader is that he will lead the blind members of the congregation to HELL since from their respect for him, they fail to see his errors from the view point of God’s Word and eventually they would have only themselves to blame.
Dear friend, follow Jesus Christ wholeheartedly, obey His Word in the Holy Bible and ensure whatever your pastor tells you is in sync with God’s Word, otherwise, you may find yourself living your eternity in eternal damnation.
May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
