GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS
Dear friend, God has
clearly told us in His Word that His Ways are not our ways and His thoughts are
not our thoughts – Isaiah 55:8-9.
I want to share with you
a very powerful testimony I read earlier today on a friend’s social media page,
which attests to the fact that God can and would provide your needs as a
genuine believer child of His and you will never have to beg as God has decreed
in His Word in Psalm 37:25.
It also shows you the
need to completely trust in God when you speaks to you through His Word in the
Holy Bible. It also shows you that soul winning is still a major requirement
for God as far as this world is concerned.
Happy reading…………………..
Many
years back as a student of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, South West
Nigeria, things were tough financially. I was fortunate to live in one of the Quarters
in the lecturer quarters with a dear brother in the faith. I had virtually no
more money to feed.
All I
had left was a cheap concoct of stew and a little rice in a polythene bag. I
tried to figure out what to do as I watched what I had run out. One day, I sat
in my room thinking. A scripture came to me: "Trust in the Lord with all
your heart and lean not on your understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him
and He will direct your paths."
So I
decide to ask the Lord what to do to get through this trying period. A short
while after, I heard this in my spirit, "Ask your neighbours if they would
like some of your stew." I couldn't believe what I thought I just heard. I
blurted out "no!" I could only see one outcome if I did that: HUNGER!
I mean if I was going to do that, definitely not because I gave my last pot of
stew to my horrible neighbours?!
You see my neighbours (in my
religious opinion) were the worst kind of unbelievers. They always had girls
over at odd times of the night. They were all chain smokers. And they were very
loud and raucous. It also didn't make much sense to give away the little food I
had left to a bunch of unruly unbelievers.
Here I was trying to figure out how to stretch my beloved stew,
and God was asking me to share it with unclean people I didn't want to be
associated with! So I tried to ignore the voice; and I did for the rest of the
day. However, the scripture kept coming to back my heart, "Lean not on
your understanding..."
The following day, VERY
RELUCTANTLY, I dragged myself over to my naughty neighbours and knocked. There
were three guys occupying a room. The guy who answered the door was VERY
surprised to see me: we generally avoided each other even though we were
neighbours for more than a year.
When I explained why I was knocking at the door, he was shocked.
I told him I was knocking to offer some stew to them if they needed any. He
said he would tell the others and thanked me profusely. I felt so stupid as I
walked back over to my room. But I knew in my spirit God had spoken to me.
Later in the evening he came over
to ask for some of the stew for three of them. As I dished out my fish stew I
kept thinking, "You really must be crazy..." The following day, they
came over again. And I dished it out.
By the third day it was all gone. As I sat there thinking,
"So what now?", there was a knock on the door. I opened and it was
one of the guys. He wanted to know if he could have some more stew. I had to
restrain myself while I politely told him it was all gone. The guy stood there
for a minute thinking.
Then he asked me if we could come to some kind of arrangement. I
asked what he meant? He said he could talk to his roommates, and if I didn’t
mind making more stew, they would gladly get the ingredients for it; all I had
to do was give them a list of what was needed. I couldn't believe what I heard.
I said, "Sure, why not?"
As I closed the door, I marvelled. God had set this up. There
was nothing special about the stew. I was only cooking because I wasn't
financially buoyant. I was BROKE! But you know, none of those three guys could
cook! And eating out all the time was not convenient or economically smart for
any of them. I didn't know that. BUT GOD KNEW!
For the rest of the year, I never
had to spend a dime on meals. Not only that, I got two of them involved in my
fellowship. If I hadn't put aside my reasoning and obeyed what I knew God had
said, I would have missed out on His plan for my needs and their souls. God
doesn't always make sense but He does make miracles. What He needs is your
trust.
Proverbs 3 :5-7
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. 6 Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. 7 Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are
