JESUS CHRIST, SON OF GOD AND MESSIAH

Dear reader, the intention of this particular post is to show you and anyone who cares to find out that Jesus Christ is not an ordinary person as non-Christians think. Anyone who finds Jesus Christ has found God, has found life and is saved when you sincerely worship, serve Him and obey His teachings.

Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God the Father Almighty. The name Jesus Christ means Saviour Anointed. He is also God, the second Person of the Holy Trinity I discussed in my last post. Jesus is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End, the One Who was, Who is and Who is to come.

A lot of non-Christians find it difficult to believe these statements and even accept it. Some of them know it is the truth but still refuse to accept it. Christians accept it because it is the truth God has revealed and history has proven. 

Ever since He came to earth in human form, Jesus Christ has become the most popular name in the whole of human history. Why is this so? It is simply because it is the will of God. Human history has it that Jesus Christ started a new religion called Christianity in Israel with 12 men as Apostles and that religion has spread to all parts of the world today.

If this was not the Divine will of God, it could never have happened. There are more Christians in the world today than any other Group who lay claim to a particular religion.

Even the Christian calender, which is the most popular used in today's world is linked to Jesus Christ; B.C. for Before Christ (Before Christ's birth on earth) and A.D. for Anno Domini, which is Latin for In the year of the Lord (from the Nativity or birth of Christ). What this means is that year 2013 for instance is 2013 AD or AD 2013.

At the beginning of creation as the bible tells us, God created man in His (God's) image and likeness. Genesis 1:26-27, Then God said, "And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us. They will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small." So God created human beings, making them to be like himself. He created them male and female. 

God used the word "we" when He wanted to create humans. Who was God referring to? It could not have been the angels since they are there to serve Him and they are not created in God's image and likeness. This is the first pointer to the Holy Trinity, that is, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and that is why God said we will make human beings and they will be like us and resemble us. Jesus Christ, is God the Son, the second Person of the Holy Trinity.

Humans are like God in that they have an immortal form, which is the soul that goes back to God when one dies to spend ETERNITY in either in heaven or hell depending on whether one while living on earth accepted Jesus as Messiah and live a righteous life acceptable  to God or rejected Jesus and lived an unrighteous life.

Jesus Christ is the Word of God that became a human being (John 1:14) and He was there at the beginning when God created the world (John 1:1-5). What this means is that Jesus is both Divine and Human. This is why He told the Pharisees in John 8:23-24, "You belong to this world here below, but I come from above. You are from this world but I am not from this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. And you will die in your sins if you do not believe that "I Am Who I Am".

In saying this, Jesus revealed His Divine nature using the same words God directed Moses to inform the Israelites in Egypt when they asked Moses who sent him to deliver them from bondage. Even the Pharisees who were the custodians of the Jewish law at that time did not know Jesus the Messiah had come and was with them as they had been fasting, praying and expecting all those years.

The bible from beginning to the end is God's way of showing His love to man inspite of man's sinful nature and also pointing man to the fact that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to God and there is no other way. When Adam, the first man disobeyed God's command and Eve the first woman were both driven away from God's presence in the Garden of Eden (Gen.3:1-24), God still demonstrated His love for man by promising a Messiah that would redeem man (Gen.3:15) from sin and reconcile man to God.

Different texts in the old testament point to different prophecies concerning the Messiah that were fulfilled when Christ came as shown in the new testament. 365 prophecies of the old testament with their fulfilment in the New Testament at the end of this post all refer to the person of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God.

Jesus came in human form for the sole purpose of redemption of man from the sin of Adam and Eve. If He did not come and die for our sins, no human being would qualify to enter heaven. Those who died living a righteous life before Christ's first coming, death and resurrection had to wait until Christ went to Hades or hell to free them and take them to heaven (Ephesians 4:8-10).

In the early Christian era, there was a false doctrine called Arianism formed by a Christian Presbyter called Arius who claimed that Jesus never existed as Son of God before all creation but was only created by God the Father and came in human form. Several arguments were put forward in support and against this false doctrine until the Ecumenical Council of Nicea in 325 AD where by the power of the Holy Spirit, those against the false Arianism doctrine put forth strong argument and defeated those who supported it.

The Nicene Creed was thus formed, which is a profession of Faith of Christians of the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Church of the East, the Oriental Orthodox Churches, the Anglican Communion and a host of other Protestant churches.

The Nicene Creed of today begins and describes the Lord Jesus thus, "I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through Him all things were made."

In Colossians 1:15-20, Paul writes, Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first-born Son, superior to all created things. For through Him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through Him and for Him. Christ existed before all things, and in union with Him all things have their proper place.

He is the head of His body, the church; He is the source of the body's life. He is the first-born Son, who was raised from death, in order that He alone might have the first place in all things. For it was by God's own decision that the Son has in Himself the full nature of God. Through the Son, then, God decided to bring the whole universe back to Himself. God made peace through His Son's sacrificial death on the cross and so brought back to Himself all things, both on earth and in heaven.

This scripture passage from Paul's letter to the Colossians summarises the whole story of the divine and human nature and purpose of our Lord and Saviour Jesus' coming to this world. 

Dear reader, having read all this and going through the scripture references below, do you now believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God and God Himself? If you do, I sincerely congratulate you and thank God for your life. The next great step is to give your life to Christ in repentance  of all wrongdoings and acceptance of Him as Lord and Saviour of your life with a promise to follow Him sincerely while asking for the Holy Spirit as a guide.

I urge you sincerely to take this step because once all is done in this world and we leave, nothing else would matter except how we lived here on earth and whether Jesus Christ the Messiah was Lord of our lives in our deeds and words. That would in turn determine where we would spend eternity - in heaven or hell.

The time of His second coming is nearer than ever before and Christ now says through various testimonies, "I am coming now". The question is, are we ready to receive Him? Are you dear reader, ready to receive Him?
