THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD
As I stated in a previous
post on the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Trinity,
distinct in personality but the same and equal as God. Again, the Holy Trinity
is a mystery and I did try to explain it in that post so you can read it up
there for enlightenment.
In the Word of God (the
Bible), the Holy Spirit is called various names - the Paraclete, the Comforter,
the Helper, Breath of the Almighty God, Power of the Highest, Eternal Spirit,
Spirit of the Father, Spirit of Christ, Spirit of the Son, Spirit of life and
so on and so forth.
When He had almost completed
His mission on earth, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ told His Apostles in
John 14:15-17, "If you love me, you will obey my commandments. I will ask
the Father (God) and He will give you another Helper, who will stay with you
forever. He is the Spirit who reveals the truth about God.
The world cannot receive
Him, because it cannot see Him. But you know Him, because He remains with you
and is in you.
Jesus was referring to the
Holy Spirit here and He made a clear distinction that only those who obey His
commandments would receive the Holy Spirit who will reveal the truth about God.
Jesus goes further to say in
John 14:18-21, "When I go, you will not be left all alone; I will come
back to you. In a little while the world will see me no more, but you will see
me; and because I live, you also will live. When that day comes, you will know
that I am in the Father and that you are in me, just as I am in you.
Whoever accepts my commandments
and obeys them is the one who loves me. My Father will love whoever love me; I
too will love him and reveal myself to him.
Again Jesus is referring to
the Holy Trinity (God the Father, Himself, God the Son and God the Holy
Spirit).
We clearly infer from Jesus'
statement that anyone who does not obey His commandments does not love Him and
His Father (God) loves those who obey Jesus' commands and Jesus loves and
reveals Himself to them.
So the Holy Spirit of God
only comes to those who obey Jesus's commandments. Jesus fulfilled His promise
of the Holy Spirit to His Apostles on Pentecost Day, ten days after He ascended
to Heaven (Acts 2:1-12). The Holy Spirit has guided the Body of Christ (the
Church) through the ages, revealing the truth about God till this present day.
We see this in Jesus' words
to His Apostles in John 16:12-15, "I have much more to tell you, but now
it would be too much for you to bear. When, however, the Spirit comes, who
reveals the truth about God, He will lead you into all truth. He will not speak
on His own authority, but He will speak of what He hears, and will tell you of
things to come.
He will give me glory,
because He will take what I say and tell it to you. All that my Father has is
mine; that is why I said that the Spirit will take what I give Him and tell it
to you.
Indeed, anyone who sincerely
obeys Jesus' commandments would have the promise of the Holy Spirit as a guide
to the truth about God. Those who disobey Jesus' commandments cannot have the
promise of the Holy Spirit. These are
the ones Jesus refers to as the world that cannot see or receive the Holy
Spirit.
How does a person know if he
or she has the Holy Spirit in him or her? Is it by claiming to know God or
Jesus Christ? The Word of God clarifies this issue in Galatians 5:16-26, What I
say is this: let the Holy Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy
the desires of human nature.
For what our human nature
wants is opposed to what the Spirit wants, and what the Spirit wants is opposed
to what our human nature wants. These two are enemies, and this means that you
cannot do what you want to do. If the Spirit leads you, then you are not
subject to the law.
What human nature does is
quite plain. It shows itself in immoral, filthy and indecent actions; in
worship of idols and witchcraft. People become enemies and they fight; they
become jealous, angry and ambitious. They separate into parties and groups;
they are envious, get drunk, have orgies, and do other things like these. I
warn you now as I have before: those who do these things will not possess the
Kingdom of God.
But the Spirit produces
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and
self-control. There is no law against such things as these. And those who
belong to Christ Jesus have put to death their human nature with all its
passions and desires. The Spirit has given us life; He must also control our
lives. We must not be proud or irritate one another or be jealous of one
another.
These qualities in the
preceding paragraph are the fruits of the Holy Spirit that manifest in those
who love Christ Jesus and obey His commandments and whom the Holy Spirit will
come into their lives.
Dear reader, it is important
note here that our Lord Jesus Christ also loves those who do not obey His
commands, but the love He has for them is what made Him die on the cross for
mankind's sins to reconcile mankind to God over 2,013 years ago. Jesus, who is
God and the creator of everything in Heaven and on earth knows the beginning
from the end.
He knows that anyone here on
earth who is not obeying His commands is living a dangerous life and does not
have the Holy Spirit as a guide to the truth about God. If such person dies and
leaves this earth in sin, that person's soul ends up in hell FOREVER without
any other chance for repentance. The chance for repentance is only here on
earth and NOW when we are still alive.
ONLY those who obey Jesus'
commandments would make it to Heaven when they depart this world because the
Holy Spirit will always be with them here on earth to lead them to the truth
about God as Jesus promised and as continues to happen till today.
Jesus created hell for satan
and his demons but many people continue to sin by disobeying Jesus' commands
and die to end up in eternal torment in hell with satan. A lot of souls die
every single day in sin and are presently in hell undergoing torment.
Jesus continues to weep
daily because of this very sad truth and in His love and mercy as our Father He
has taken several people to show them the realities of hell with perished souls
there in eternal torment and heaven with its astounding beauty and returned
these witnesses to earth with a warning to mankind to repent of sins and turn
to Him (Jesus) as the ONLY guarantee of getting to heaven.
satan now continues to laugh
since he and his demons are presently tormenting the souls of those who died in
sin in hell. satan will get his own punishment when hell and death are cast
into the lake burning with fire and sulphur, which is the second death
(Revelation 21:8).
As I write this message,
this is an opportunity for you, dear reader, and I as we are still alive to
examine our lives carefully and repent of our sins, turn to Jesus Christ and
accept Him as Lord and Saviour of our lives and ask for His Holy Spirit to
direct us to the truth about God.
I plead with you not to
harden your heart as you read this message. Don't allow satan to deceive you
while here on earth. Those who did in the past and have died are regretting it
now in hell fire but it is too late to repent there. The chance to repent is
only here on earth and the time to repent is NOW, not tomorrow or in the future
because no one knows the day the end would come for him or her.
God bless you as you listen
to His voice today, accept this message of life, act on it sincerely and share
it with others you know are truly in need. May the Lord bless you abundantly as
you comply in Jesus' Mighty name, Amen.
