ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT JESUS CHRIST THE MESSIAH
Year
after year, the season of Advent and Christmas, the coming and birth of our
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is usually marked with a lot of fanfare -
shopping, celebration, exchange of gifts and cards, sharing of love, putting up
lights and setting up Christmas Trees, singing of Christmas Carols, throwing
fire crackers, etc, etc.
This
is unarguably the best season in the world because of the increased activities
that takes place in human lives all geared towards having a memorable occasion.
Only
very few people focus on the most important aspect of the season - the gift
from God of Jesus Christ in fulfilment of His promise and prophecies to send a
Messiah to redeem the world from eternal damnation caused by the sin of Adam
and Eve.
In the
beginning, God created man in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27) and He
did so out of love. Man allowed satan to deceive him, disobeyed God, therefore
sinned and shut himself from God's friendship and died spiritually (Genesis 3).
However, God in His infinite mercy and love promised to send a Messiah to
redeem man from the curse of sin (Genesis 3:15).
Over
several centuries, God continued to remind man of that promise to send a
Messiah through various prophets. Eventually, Jesus Christ, who is God's Son
and has always existed as God before time began, took the form of a human being
and was born of a Virgin Mary in the City of Bethlehem in Israel.
Jesus'
coming was in fulfilment of God's promise and He is the Messiah, the Saviour
Anointed, who came and gave His life in atonement for the sins of mankind and
forever reconciled man to God. His sacrificial death on the Cross of Calvary
some 1,979 years ago destroyed what satan had done, broke the power of
spiritual death over man and thus opened the gate of heaven for all who qualify
to enter.
Heaven
is thus the home of ONLY anyone who believes what God did through Jesus Christ,
repents of sin, accepts Jesus as Lord and Saviour, lives a holy life and asks
God's Holy Spirit to guide him or her and obey God's commands as stated clearly
in the Holy Bible, the Book of Life.
Anyone
who is unable to accept and follow this simple teaching will not enter heaven
and hell fire, a dark, smelly place of eternal torment that is home to lucifer
or satan will eventually become the home of such person. My prayer for you,
dear reader and myself is that God will lead us by His Holy Spirit to reveal
the truth about these things.
Thus,
dear reader, every year, Christians the world over commemorate and celebrate
the Nativity or birth of Jesus Christ. It is a happy reminder that one of the
greatest events mankind has ever witnessed took place in demonstration of God's
eternal love for us.
We
should therefore celebrate it in ways that are pleasing to God and glorify His
Holy Name. Sadly though, we see many people celebrate this glorious season in
sin - getting drunk, sleeping around with all manner of persons, indulging in
sinful acts in desperation to raise money all in a bid to celebrate a spiritual
and significant event.
Some
steal, cheat customers, prostitute their bodies, all to celebrate Christmas -
it ought not to be so dear reader and friend.
Equally
sad is the fact that some who profess Christianity are also engaged in these
sinful acts. Jesus came to save us because He loves us. We therefore ought to
reciprocate this love whenever we celebrate by ensuring to do ONLY things that
please Him.
We can
spend time and share gifts to loved ones and even the less privileged, pray for
the needy and ensure to attend Church to worship God and show gratitude to Him
for the love He has bestowed and continues to bestow upon us.
God
created us and we belong to Him. We should always live our lives appreciating
this fact and teaching others to do the same. Think deeply about these things
and you will come to understand how much God loves us. We cannot afford to
reject His love because anyone who does will eventually regret it especially if
such person dies in that state.
My
prayer is that God in His infinite mercy and love will open our eyes of
understanding by the power of His Holy Spirit to help us to accept His Word,
act on it, share with others and eventually earn eternal life when we depart
this world.
May
God bless us as we do so in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen. I wish you the very best
of Christmas 2013 in Jesus' name, Amen.
Gabriel
Ama.
