THE KIND OF FAITH EVERY CHRISTIAN MUST POSSESS
In
the Bible incident involving Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who were important
officials in Babylon and colleagues of Daniel who were all Jews in Babylonian
captivity, we are told how the then King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon set up an
idol and commanded everyone in the province to fall down and worship the image
at the sound of music.
The
king also decreed that anyone who failed to obey would be cast into a fiery
furnace to die there.
Some
people in Babylon went to report to the King that Shadrach, Meshach and
Abednego refused to comply with his directive concerning worship of the idol.
The
king was furious, sent for the men and warned them to comply with his directive
or face death in the fiery furnace since no god would be able to deliver them.
At
this point, the men Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego responded as recorded in
Daniel 3:16-18, "O Nebuchadnezzar,
we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom
we serve is able to deliver us from your hand O king.
But if not,
let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we
worship the gold image which you have set up."
In
rage, King Nebuchadnezzar ordered that the fiery furnace be heated up seven
times more than usual and the men Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cast into
the furnace.
While
the men who threw the Jews into the fiery furnace died from the excessive heat,
NOTHING happened to the Jews Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego!
Even
King Nebuchadnezzar was so stunned by this occurrence that he declared in
Daniel 3:28-29 "Blessed be the God
of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who sent His Angel and delivered His
servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king's word, and
yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except
their own God!
Therefore, I
make a decree that any people, nation or language which speaks anything amiss
against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego shall be cut in pieces, and
their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can
deliver like this"
The
Word of God reports in Daniel 3:30, Then
the King promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
Dear
friend, this true story is a clear evidence of the Power and Might of our God
and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
Not
only did God deliver from death His servants who trusted in Him, God made the
king of Babylon promote them and make a decree that He alone, God Almighty,
should be worshipped the world over.
This
display of faith by Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego is the same manner
Christians should operate with today. We should not look at our positions in
any place of authority we find ourselves if our conduct would constitute an
offence to God Almighty's commands.
We
should rather stand our ground as Christians and honour God's Holy Name by
showing others the right way to live, which is what God has shown us in His
Holy Word found written in the Holy Bible.
This
is why our Lord Jesus Christ says in Matthew 10:28 "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.
But rather fear Him (God Almighty) who is able to destroy both soul and body in
hell."
Dear
friend, we have no business having fear of human beings no matter how highly
placed in society they are - whether President of a Country, Senator, Army
Commander, Governor, Mayor, etc.
Like
us, these people are mere mortals and will like us also, give account of their
lives to God when they depart this world. All we owe people in authority is
respect and prayer as God's Word has commanded.
With
a faith like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego's any Christian will invoke God's
Divine favour and achieve whatever he or she desires in life.
Let us therefore
shun evil, corruption and sin and trust in God to provide all our needs in
whatever situation we find ourselves.
If
there is anything you need in life, pray to God in Jesus' Name, and you will
get it.
The
question, as I usually ask, dear friend, is, do you believe?
May
the good Lord bless you as you heed His Holy Word today, act on it and share
with others in Jesus' Most Powerful Name, Amen.
Gabriel
Ama.
