PRAY, DON'T MURMUR
Whenever
we are faced with a difficult situation, there are a number of alternatives
available to us to follow.
Some
look for a way out, some refuse to do anything, some complain and complain
while some pray and hand over the situation to God.
As
a Christian, the last option is the best because a praying Christian
understands that God is able to do all things and there is no situation God
cannot handle because He owns everything and has the final say ALWAYS.
This
is why God was angry with the Israelites in the wilderness when He commanded
them to enter and take possession of the Promised Land of Canaan flowing with
milk and honey and they refused and started complaining.
Rather
than believe God and do what He commanded as confirmed by Joshua and Caleb, the
Israelites chose to believe man's report of the other 10 spies who said the
people in Canaan were like giants while they, the Israelite spies were like
grasshoppers (Numbers 13:32-33).
It
is recorded in Numbers 14:11 "Then
the Lord said to Moses: “How long will these people reject Me? And how long
will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?
God
is Holy and Just and so every action of His is Righteous. Despite showing His
enormous powers to the Israelites with miracles like:
(1)
making the Red sea stand like a wall on both sides for the Israelites to walk
on dry land at the sea bottom and then killing Pharaoh and his soldiers when
the Red sea came back flat,
(2)
providing heavenly food or manna for the Israelites
(3)
providing meat for them,
the
Israelites preferred to still doubt God and murmured against Him (Numbers
14:2-3). How sad!
As
a result of their disbelief and murmuring, God decreed that except for Joshua
and Caleb, none of those who rebelled against Him would enter the Promised Land
(Numbers 14:20-25; 34-35).
They
then spent 40 years roaming the wilderness for each of the 40 days they delayed
in acting on God's command to take Canaan Land by first sending 12 spies to see
what the land looked like.
Even
at that, the Lord in His mercy still performed a miracle amongst the Israelites
by ensuring their clothes did not fade nor did their feet swell nor did their
sandals deteriorate for the whole 40 years in the wilderness (Deuteronomy 8:4;
29:5).
Dear
friend, only God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ can
accomplish such feat!
Unfortunately,
many Christians today are like the Israelites of old. They believe God can do
anything but when they face trials, they forget this and begin to murmur.
May
God forgive us all, for at one time or the other in our lives we have been
guilty of the sin of murmuring against God.
This
is why our Lord Jesus Christ encourages us to persevere in prayers and never to
give up in the parable of the widow and the unjust judge (Luke 18:1-7).
If
an unjust judge could give justice to a woman who persisted in asking him, then
our God will CERTAINLY answer when we call without relenting.
But
our Lord Jesus Christ asks a very important question in Luke 18:8b, "Nevertheless, when the Son of Man
comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
This
question is important because with faith, one will please God and obtain
favours from Him (Hebrews 11:6). Without faith, there will be no answer from
heaven as God's Word clearly states in James 1:5-8.
Dear
friend, only Jesus can save one from the most difficult situation in life. You
only have to make Him your Lord and Saviour to obtain this benefit.
Today, and
NOW, is the time of decision, for tomorrow or later may be too late.
Repent
from sin GENUINELY and make Jesus your true Saviour and watch Him help you when
you call on Him in prayer by faith.
May
the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with
others in Jesus' Most Precious Name, Amen.
Gabriel
Ama.
