JESUS CHRIST THE KING IS COMING (2)
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
9 Do you not
know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have any share
in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure and
immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in
homosexuality,
10 Nor cheats
(swindlers and thieves), nor greedy graspers, nor drunkards, nor foulmouthed
revilers and slanderers, nor extortioners and robbers will inherit or have any
share in the kingdom of God.
11 And such
some of you were [once]. But you were washed clean (purified by a complete
atonement for sin and made free from the guilt of sin), and you were
consecrated (set apart, hallowed), and you were justified [pronounced
righteous, by trusting] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy]
Spirit of our God.
Dear people of God, there was a time I used to celebrate
Christmas in alcohol and immorality. I recall this particular night in December
1995 I sat down with friends to take drinks and I took alcohol to a level that
got me drunk.
On my way home, I had a tummy upset and had to stop to throw up
and I felt very irritated. There and then even in my drunken state I took a
decision to stop taking alcohol to a state of drunkenness.
I stuck to my decision and still continued to take alcohol
moderately until God showed mercy on me in 2013 when I repented from alcohol
and I have neither missed it nor had any urge for it again.
God’s Word says in Isaiah 5:22 (AMP) “Woe to those who are mighty heroes at drinking wine and men of
strength in mixing alcoholic drinks!–“
The dictionary defines WOE with words like ruinous trouble,
calamity, affliction, deep suffering from misfortune, distress, agony,
tribulation and so when God’s Word declares woe to those who take alcohol,
common sense should tell anyone to steer clear of it.
It was in 1996 that God delivered me from immorality. I again
fell in 2001 but ever since I got married in 2003, by God’s grace I have never
been involved in immorality.
Dear friend, the reason I take time to pen this aspect of my
life down is to make us understand that as human beings, we all have our past
stories of immorality of various kinds.
However, if you would just pay attention to today’s lead Bible
text, you will see the danger of remaining in sin and immorality and the reason
why you should come out of it.
The truth is, there is nothing to gain from sin and immorality
and there is everything to gain in knowing, remaining in and obeying Christ
Jesus our Lord.
I still celebrate Christmas and New Year with my family but it
is more of a spiritual exercise with Christ Jesus as the center of our worship
at church and celebration at home than just eating, drinking and making merry.
You can celebrate Christ at Christmas but it must never be in
acts of desperation, sin and immorality that offends rather than glorify Jesus
our Creator.
Just like Jesus did for me by showing me the dangers of sin and
immorality and where it would land me if I continued and die in it (thus
leading me to a genuine repentance and forsaking of sin), so the same Lord
Jesus Christ can and will do for anyone who sincerely makes himself or herself
available to His calling.
There is simply no excuse for anyone to remain in sin. As the
Bible says, anyone who continues in sin is a child of the devil – 1 John 3:10.
Jesus Christ the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is coming NOW.
Are you ready to receive Him? Are you ready for His coming this Christmas?
May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on
it and share with others in the Precious and Merciful Name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
