THE RIGHT WAY TO ASSESS YOURSELF

Many folks assess themselves using others as a yard stick, whether it is spiritual standing with God, financial status, academic prowess, relationships, health status, marriage, you name it.

As a result, they feel relaxed when they believe they have a better standing than the person with whom they are comparing themselves.

Dear friend, the correct yardstick with which to assess yourself is the Word of God in the Holy Bible.

When you study God’s Word regularly, conscientiously and meditatively, it gives you an exact understanding of where you are in life.

God’s Word can never mislead you unlike the lifestyle of others. God’s Word is pure and sharper than a double edged sword – Hebrews 4:12.

It tells you how you are faring in your relationships with others and most importantly how you stand with God.

In Luke 18:9-14, we read how the Lord Jesus Christ uses a parable of a tax collector and a Pharisee to warn those who believe they are more righteous than others and scorn others as sinners.

The Pharisee in prayer to God was busy praising himself, enlisting his religious accomplishments whilst blaming others and even the tax collector nearby as sinners.

The tax collector on his part looking down in remorse acknowledged his sinful nature and prayed to God to have mercy on him.

The Lord Jesus says the tax collector found favour with God and received mercy and forgiveness unlike the Pharisee.

The importance of using God’s Word in the Holy Bible to assess yourself is because it contains all the information you need to so do. Nowhere else can the absolute truth be found except in the Holy Bible.

Not only would God’s Word show your spiritual status with God, it shows you what to do to retrace your steps back to God when you are in error.

It further gives you more insight into why you are struggling financially and even in your relationships with others.

It warns you on what to expect when you make up your mind on the greatest and single most important decision in life, which is to repent of sin and follow the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Messiah of your life, sincerely obeying His every commandment in the Holy Bible.

Only then, dear friend, are you assured of genuine success in this life and how to relate with God and fellow humans and eventually attain eternity in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ when you exit this world.

Please stop wasting your time comparing yourself with other people to feel cool about your lifestyle.

The Word of God in the Holy Bible is the one and only perfect yardstick for assessing your life. Jesus Christ is the Word of God so study His lifestyle and then compare it against yours and you are sure you have done the right thing.

The right thing is when you amend your ways sincerely and align to obey every Word God has spoken in the Holy Bible – Matthew 4:4.
