RAISING A GODLY CHILD
Proverbs 22:6
"Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his
individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it."
Dear people of God,
today’s lead Holy Bible text looks simple and explanatory enough but sadly,
only few parents are able to abide by it.
The love parents
have for their children makes them do so many ungodly things for these children
in the belief that what they are doing is best for the child whereas they are
destroying the child’s life and future.
Such parents forget
that children are a gift from God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ and every of God’s gift to us is precious and must be treated as
such.
How do you handle a
child who has done wrong outside? Do you shield the child or do you openly
discipline the child?
God’s Word tells us
in Proverbs 29:15, “The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left
undisciplined brings his mother to shame.”
Verse 17 of the same
Proverbs 29 states thus, “Correct your son, and
he will give you rest; yes, he will give delight to your heart.”
Dear friend, you
must realize that you cannot love your child more than God Who created you and
the child and gave that child to you as a caretaker.
God owns the child
and so you must train the child in the Way of the Lord otherwise you will be
creating future problems for yourself, the child and the society as we see in
today’s world.
In training a child
in godliness requires you to know God’s standards found ONLY in the Holy Bible
and apply same in word and action as an example to the child.
It does not matter
if it took 10 or 15 or 20 years for you to have your first child. The fact
remains God owns the child and you as the parent are only a caretaker of God’s
gift to you.
This is a very serious
matter because a number of parents have missed it completely in the area of
godly training for their children according to God’s Word and are in danger of
losing their eternity in heaven if they fail to correct the wrong.
If you are poor and
your female child starts bringing home expensive items from outside, you owe
yourself a duty as a godly parent to demand to know where she got it from and
to reject whatever the child gives you if unable to properly account for it.
It is your duty as a
parent to provide for your family and not the other way round because abandoning
your duty to your child makes you worse than an unbeliever – 1 Timothy 5:8.
Ask God in prayer in
the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for whatever it is you need to provide for
your child’s spiritual and material well-being according to His Word and God
will surely respond because you honour Him by obeying His Word.
Every parent will
give account to God for their children’s spiritual and material upbringing.
Save yourself the
danger of offending God by studying the Holy Bible to know what God says about
this, then diligently obey and apply it so God can complete the good work He
has started in your life by spiritually and materially blessing you and your
family.

bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’
