GOD’S SERVANT WITH BIG TITLES

I may be wrong but I am yet to see any white Pentecostal Movement clergy man outside of the orthodox fold bearing the title of Bishop.

All the ones I have seen so far have been men of African descent.

So what is it about titles with some ministers of God?

Does a title confer special preference from God on the clergyman using it?

I once told my spouse that she should be wary of any preacher of the Gospel of Christ who emphasizes his titles when introducing himself.

For instance you can see someone bearing Apostle Evangelist or Pastor Doctor or Pastor Professor before their names.

The reason I told my spouse to be wary of such people is that they are more interested in honour from men than the work they claim God has called them to do.

I thank God for confirming my submission, which proves the Spirit of God is one. How did God do it?

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye once testified how when he became the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), he made a title plate he kept on his office table, which read, “Pastor E.A. Adeboye, B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD, General Overseer, RCCG”

He said God told him one day that if he ever wanted to walk with him (God), he should discard the title plate. Pastor Adeboye complied immediately and has borne only the title of Pastor ever since whilst serving God.

The Bible tells us in Romans 2:11, “For God shows no partiality [undue favour or unfairness; with Him one man is not different from another]. “

This means God treats every one of His children equally regardless of social, political or religious status.

However, it is equally pertinent to note that God expects more from the mature Christian than the baby Christian.

Equally so, on the Day of Judgement, God would be stricter on the teachers of the Gospel than the congregation because God expects that the teachers know His Word and should lead by example in everything and every way – James 3:1.

Therefore, you preacher of the Gospel reading this, it would do you much good to de-emphasize your title and focus on the work God has called you to, which is to preach the Gospel of Christ Jesus to the lost souls to repent and return to Jesus Christ sincerely before it is too late.

The preacher is also to warn everyone about the Christ’s second coming in Rapture to take His children and the impending judgement awaiting all mankind and the grave consequences for sinners.

This, dear friend, is also not an excuse not to preach the Gospel even when you are not a clergy man or woman, because we are all commanded to preach the Gospel of Christ to all creatures of the human race all over the world – Mark 16:15.

That God treats all his children equally but expects greater accountability from the clergy is not an excuse to disrespect Ecclesiastical Authority or to live in sin as a Laity because God will bring every word, thought or deed of ours into judgement and there would be consequences for those who are found wanting.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
