THE ORIGIN OF EAR RINGS
Genesis 35:1-4 (AMPC)
“AND GOD said to Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. And make there an altar to God Who appeared to you [in a distinct manifestation] when you fled from the presence of Esau your brother.
2 Then Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, Put away the [images of] strange gods that are among you, and purify yourselves and change [into fresh] garments;
3 Then let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make there an altar to God Who answered me in the day of my distress and was with me wherever I went.
4 So they [both young men and women] gave to Jacob all the strange gods they had and their earrings which were [worn as charms against evil] in their ears; and Jacob buried and hid them under the oak near Shechem.”
Dear people of God, today’s lead Holy Bible text is an eye opener to our sisters and brother men who believe wearing of ear rings is simply a fashionable trend.
Verse 4 of the text shows the reason behind wearing ear rings or the origin of ear rings. You see, in those days, there was this belief then that the openings of the body, specifically the ear and nose were vulnerable points through which evil spirits could enter a person.
So the people wore ear rings and nose rings with idols or amulets or charms on them as a means of protection against this.
If this was the origin and reason for wearing ear and nose rings in the early times, what do you think has changed today that would make wearing them just a fashion symbol?
If the origin of ear rings is of demonic motives, what has happened in today’s world to make that change? Do you know what transpires where these items are produced?
Dear friend, the fact that you are born into this world to see majority of people doing something does not make it the right thing because what is an error in times past remains an error today and would remain an error in millions of years to come.
So the argument that women wear ear rings to distinguish them from men is wrong. Are you aware that there are health hazards and risks associated with ear piercings?
Do you know anything originating from God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ that has health hazards or risks?
Ear rings are not of God and so people who profess Christianity are advised in their own interest to desist from using them. In case you have forgotten, today’s Bible text shows their origin.
You should also study 1 Timothy 2:9-10 and 1 Peter 3:3-6 for further details on how true Christian women should be identified.
If you are using such items on your body that have demonic origin, how is it possible for God’s Word to have a meaning when you hear it read and preached?
Please save yourself from damnation before it is too late.
