THE REASON WHY YOU SHOULD NOT BACKSLIDE
Cast your mind back
to when you first realized you needed the Lord Jesus Christ as your Messiah. You
took a decision to repent sincerely, confessed and forsook your sins with a
firm resolve not to go back to sin again.
You led a sincere
holy life trying your best to live for Christ according to His Word. You went
to church regularly and at a time you even began sharing the Gospel about your
new found love for Christ with your friends and others who were still in the
world and leading a sinful life.
Even when those
friends made fun of your faith, you never relented. You got instant answers to
your prayers and it was all so good.
Then suddenly, you
have a misfortune that caused a financial or marital or medical setback for
you. You then say a prayer and nothing seems to be working.
It is as if the
Lord Jesus has abandoned you and is unwilling to help you anymore. Friends begin
to mock you and ask why are these things happening to you and yet you say you
are a Christian?
After a while, you
begin to question your faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ. You stop praying,
you stop going to church, you don’t read your bible anymore and off you go back
to your old life of sin, alcohol, narcotics, immoral music, cigarettes smoking
and so on and so forth.
Your friends in the
world whom you had abandoned are ready to receive you again into their fold
albeit with caution as they need to be clear on your motives this time.
You now join them
again to make mockery of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and Christians. In fact
you get upset whenever the name of Jesus is mentioned because you believe Jesus
disappointed you at your most trying time in life.
Dear
friend, does the above scenario describe you? If it does, I can tell you today
that you do not have to live this way.
Look
at what the Bible says in Romans 8:35, “Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”
The Bible
answers this question in verses 37-39 of the same Scripture – “Nay, in all these
things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.
38
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
It is evident that
God is aware of these things that Christians pass through. However, I want you
to know today that just as a baby requires milk from the mother and support to
nourish him, grow to become healthy and strong, so a baby Christian or newly
born again Christian requires the milk of God’s Word and support from
experienced and mature Christians in the faith.
Now, just as the
baby becomes an adult to take care of himself, eat food to remain healthy and
so on, so God expects the baby Christian to become mature enough to withstand
the pressures of this life.
So how does the
baby Christian become mature? He does this through constant spiritual
nourishment he receives from God’s Word in the Holy Bible from diligent study
and the preaching of the Word he receives from Church, which he compares with
the Scriptures for confirmation.
As the baby
Christians does these things with constant, fervent prayer, he will discover
from God’s Word what his rights and blessings are and as he puts them into
practice, his prayer life will change from always asking for help to praising
and thanking God for all that has been revealed from the Word, which is
available to all Christians.
He will then teach
these same things to other baby Christians to help them develop their faith.
He will then
discover that the challenges of life are not permanent but temporary and there
is always victory found only in the Lord Jesus Christ.
He will discover
the Scripture in Psalm 34:19, “Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the
Lord delivers him out of them all.”
So, this Scripture
tells us that God delivers a Christian from all his troubles. So troubles must
come because satan is the cause of troubles but God delivers the consistently
righteous from all of the troubles, not just some of them but all of them.
Dear friend, this
is why backsliding is not an option. God has assured you that He will deliver
you from all your troubles. All you need do is tell God what He has said in His
Word, thank Him for what His Word has said, then tell God exactly what you want
and He will respond with an answer that favours you.
God is a Great
Father, Holy, Righteous and Just. With him you can never be defeated. With Him,
no amount of trouble from satan and his agents can overwhelm you.
Dear friend, please
take what I am saying here serious because backsliding opens the door to satan
to afflict you and if you die in that state, there is no more hope but only
eternal damnation in hell and Jesus does not want you to go there.
Remain in Jesus
Christ and see Him trounce all your problems when you activate your authority
using the Word of God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
May the good Lord
bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’
Most Holy Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
