IS GOD LEADING YOU?
During a
conversation earlier today with my 17-year old nephew, I asked him if he knew
his plans for the next one year, to which he responded that his plan was to
enter College and graduate with a First class degree.
I told him it was a
brilliant idea and asked what would be his next plan after graduating with a First
class degree, to which he said God would lead him thereafter.
I said that was
okay but how would he know God was leading him? He responded that since he was fellowshipping
in Church with God that meant God was leading him.
I reminded my nephew
of his mother’s complaints about the behaviour of her church members who were
opposing her and causing friction in Church.
I reminded him that
those same opponents of his mum’s pastoral work in Church would also claim to
be fellowshipping with God and by extension claim to be led by God but their
actions of causing discord in church clearly shows it was offensive to God.
It was then I made
my nephew understand that the way anyone would know God was leading him or her
is by simple obedience to God’s commandments in the Holy Bible through his or lifestyle.
I told him that if
God has just 5 commandments and someone’s lifestyle conforms to all 5
commandments, it meant God was leading the person.
If on the other
hand the person’s lifestyle conforms to just 3 of the 5 commandments, it meant
God was not leading the person but rather the person was leading himself or
herself!
Such person
therefore cannot claim God was leading him or her.
Let us look at one
event between God and the Israelites in the wilderness after their Exodus from
Egypt in Numbers 14:43, “For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you,
and you shall fall by the sword. Because you have turned away from following
after the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you.”
God told Moses the leader of
Israel at the time to pass this message to the people because they doubted God’s
ability to give them Canaan Land even after they witnessed the great miracles
God performed to deliver them from Egypt and even at the Red Sea.
The people chose to believe the
false report of the 10 of 12 spies sent to spy the Promised Land. Only 2 of the
men, Caleb and Joshua gave a good report according to God’s Promise and it was
only 2 of them of all adults 20 years and above that God allowed into the
Promised Land.
Dear friend, it is a grave danger
to reject God’s Word when God is trying to pass you a message. The Israelites
saw this first-hand as all of that generation of elders died in the wilderness except
Caleb and Joshua who believed God’s Word.
When you are a church member and
your lifestyle is at variance with God’s commandments, you are the one leading
yourself because God does not lead rebellious people.
If you are an unsaved person, God
is using this message to call you to retrace your steps and come back to Him
through the Lordship of Jesus Christ before it is too late.
When you sincerely do that and
remain in Him without sin, you can be sure that God would lead you through His
Word and His Holy Spirit and you can never go astray because God becomes your
Father automatically.
God would give you every promise
of His in the Holy Bible for His children who sincerely follow Him by word and
deed and believe His promises for them.
Dear friend, I invite you today to
take this offer of allowing God to lead you because He is your Creator, Master,
Saviour and Lover. No one else can love you more than the One Who created you
and that is a fact.
No one else can lead you better
than He and that is also a fact. Come to Him today and now, for tomorrow may be
too late.
May the good Lord bless you as you
heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Mighty Name,
Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
