CARELESS TALK
On Thursday June 21, 2018, an elderly friend of mine came
visiting in the office. He started his conversation by complaining about the economic
situation in the country.
I immediately but politely countered his comments to
make him change his mind about the comments. He then retracted his comments and
spoke in favourable terms concerning himself.
However, he also told me he knew what my reaction would
be but at times it was the reality of the country’s economy that makes him say
those things.
I then reminded him that according to God’s Word in
Matthew 9:29, it is unto us according to our faith.
It then dawned on him that I would stand my ground over
the matter and so he accepted and we then went on to discuss other issues for
which he came to see me.
Dear friend, from God’s Word and by the grace of God
Almighty and Father of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I have learned to
guard my speech and not to speak negative things concerning myself in any situation.
I also make it a point of duty to consciously watch out
for what people say and once I hear negative speech, I immediately caution and
counsel the person.
It was not always like this for me because many years
ago, I did not understand the effect of our words over our circumstances in
life. for me then as it is today for so many people, Christians inclusive, it
was just a normal harmless conversation to speak negatively about ourselves
without understanding its import.
But by God’s special grace, now I understand and I know
better. You see, dear friend, every word you speak as a human being emanates
from your mind, for as God’s Word tells us in Matthew 12:34b, “For out of the fullness (the overflow, the
superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks.”
You must therefore know today that every word you
speak, whether positive or negative concerning yourself must come to pass in
your life as you have stated it. God is the One Who designed it that way.
If therefore you engage in more of careless talk or
negative comments about yourself whose origin is from your heart (spirit), that
would become your reality in life whether you like it or not.
If on the other hand, you are conscious of what thoughts
you place in your heart (spirit) and ensure only positive thoughts stay there
and produce positive comments about your situation or yourself, then it would
also become your reality in life.
It is because humans generally do not understand this
fact that is why many things go wrong for them in life.
It is also for this same reason that many Christians
encounter challenges in life. They build their faith during church services and
other special programmes and speak positively into their lives using God’s Word
in the Holy Bible.
When they have left the church service arena, they
spend the rest of their time before the next church service speaking negative
things, complaining about the difficulties of their life.
Since more time is spent doing this, those negative
comments or careless talk and complaints become their reality.
Dear friend, if your situation in life must change for
best, it starts in your heart or spirit. You must change your mind concerning
yourself. You must begin to see the limitless possibilities that God has given
to all humans including you, to excel in this life.
This change of heart first begins with a most important
decision, which is to turn sincerely from sin, confess and forsake them, accept
the Lordship of Jesus Christ as Messiah over you and then sincerely, genuinely
live a life in strict obedience to His commands in the Holy Bible.
Not only would your lifestyle change, your fortunes
would change for best because of what God’s Word in the Holy Bible says
concerning His children who believe and obey and then you are assured of an
eternity in Heaven.
Please desist today from careless thoughts, careless
talk and careless actions that would determine the course of your life. Now you
know it is not God’s fault that your life has turned out the way it is so stop
blaming God!!
Make up your mind today to follow Jesus Christ, for
tomorrow may be too late.
May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today,
act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.
