ALL IN THIS WORLD IS VANITY
Dear friends, I just returned today Saturday August 25, 2018 from a week-long
event of a burial in honour of a close friend and colleague of mine.
This friend came from a family he was close to as I discovered during
the burial. He was married with 3 beautiful kids. He supported the Liverpool Football
Club of England. He had a good job by Nigerian standards. He worked very hard
to deliver excellence on every task he was assigned.
He always had great ideas and great contributions whenever we had our
weekly meetings.
He had great hopes and aspirations concerning himself and his family
just like every focused human being in this world.
However, all that ended exactly in the early hours of Saturday August
11, 2018 when he passed away from this world.
I received the news of his death with deep shock because this year 2018
alone more than all other years I have known him, I kept receiving from him different
news about the deaths of others we either knew or he personally knew.
Little did I know it was a premonition, which neither he nor I saw until
it happened.
I immediately called Christian friends and implored them to join me in
prayers to God to resurrect my friend because the Lord Jesus Christ has given
Christians the authority to raise the dead to life in Matthew 10:8.
I refused to accept the truth of my friend’s death and I kept trusting
in God and His Word with a hope that remained inextinguishable.
Even on the day of his burial in his hometown on Friday August 24, 2018,
I came to the venue and met members of his family praying earnestly to God to
resurrect their brother.
I was glad when I saw it and joined them to thank God and pray believing
it would happen.
Alas! That was not to be as my friend did not come back to life and I personally
witnessed his body lowered into the ground and earth poured over it.
I was still watching and waiting but it never happened.
As the Word of God says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, I give thanks to God Almighty
and Father of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for everything. Despite the pain
I feel at the loss of my friend, I must let go and I must move on.
This must be the same also for his spouse, his kids, his family,
relatives, friends, acquaintances and so on.
However, there is a very deep lesson every one of us must learn for our
own good.
That lesson is found in Ecclesiastes 1:2-4 (KJV), “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of
vanities; all is vanity.
3What
profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
4One
generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth
for ever.
That deep lesson is that nothing and no one matters in this world except
Jesus Christ, the Word of God. No matter what your plans and aspirations are in
this world, please and please develop a genuine relationship with God, the Lord
Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
When we depart this world, we will be remembered by those in the world
by the things we were able to accomplish both spiritual and material.
However, please let it be known to you today that on the other side of
life called eternity, a world without end, God will not ask you whether or not
you were married or had kids, whether or not you were gainfully employed,
whether or not you had billions of money in whatever currency, whether or not
you were successful in the things of this world, the things people see and
admire.
God will only ask about your relationship with Him and your obedience to
His commandments in the Holy Bible, the ONLY Standard of assessment
of all human beings regardless of race, religion, social status, political
affiliations, gender, etc.
Dear friend, do not take this admonition lightly because it would make
the difference for you once you enter eternity at death.
Jesus Christ is warning continuously that He is coming now. For those who
have died just like my close friend, Jesus has already come. For those who are
still alive, Jesus is still warning. Take heed today and act now, because
tomorrow or later may be too late.
May the good Lord bless
you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in the Purest
Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
