PURSUING JESUS CHRIST OR PURSUING MONEY?
One of the biggest challenge most humans face today is
raising money to pay their bills.
As a result of this challenge, even some Christians
have compromised their spiritual beliefs. Rather than trust in God and the
Truth of God’s Word for their material well-being, they feign righteousness in
Church and then engage in ungodly acts outside Church just to earn a living.
The Lord Jesus Christ Himself
tells us in Matthew 6:31-34, “Therefore do not
worry and be anxious,
saying, what are we going to have to eat? or, what are we going to have to
drink? or, what are we going to have to wear?
32 For
the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and
crave and diligently
seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them
all.
33 But
seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness
(His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together
will be given you besides.
34 So
do not worry or be anxious
about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own
trouble.
Dear friend, the Lord
tells His children, the Christians, not to worry about daily living but to
pursue God’s kingdom and His righteousness and the things we seek in life God
would give freely to us.
Does this mean we
should not work to earn a living? The answer is no. What the Lord is telling us
is to always make God our first and best priority in every single area of our
lives, whether marriage, work, relationships with others, business, etc.
In essence, in all you
do, let God’s Word in the Holy Bible and God’s Holy Spirit guide you and
everything will fall in place as God has covenanted to bless and prosper His
children.
When you study God’s
Word, meditate on it, do what it says without grumbling, eye-service or pretence,
you commit God to honour His Word in your life.
But you must first know
what God’s promises towards His children are. This you would obtain through a
diligent, consistent study of His Word in the Holy Bible. You must make up your
mind to obey God.
Whether you choose to
obey God or not adds nothing to God’s Greatness. It is simply for your own good
to do exactly as God says. This is how to pursue God and Father of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ.
When God blesses you as
He has promised, you will always acknowledge and thank Him as the One Who has
rightly given you all your blessings.
You will also make it a
point of duty to tell others about God and how He has favoured you according to
His covenant with His children.
On the other hand, when
you pursue just money alone, God withdraws whatever support He planned for you
and the devil is legally permitted to afflict you with evil.
When you eventually
obtain the money, such money is hardly ever clean because there is no guide for
your actions that only God’s Holy Word and Holy Spirit can provide.
Eventually, you may
begin to see yourself as the one who created the wealth and once you enter this
mind set with wealth, you would hardly have time for God.
This is what the Lord Jesus Christ warns us about
in Mark 8:36-37, “For what does it profit
a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life [in the eternal kingdom of
God]?
37 For
what can a man give as an exchange (a compensation, a ransom, in return) for
his [blessed] life [in the eternal kingdom of God]?
Dear friend, I will
tell you in all seriousness that there is no substitute for the Lord Jesus
Christ in this world. Please do not waste your time pursuing life outside Jesus
Christ because it would certainly not end well for you.
It is only in Jesus
Christ you can genuinely obtain the blessings of this life and then enter
eternal life in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other way.
May the good Lord bless
you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in the Purest
Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
