AN UNGODLY TRADITION

Romans 12:2 (AMPC)
“Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].”

Dear people of God, just last Thursday December 20, 2018, I was discussing with a maternal cousin of mine about a tradition in our area where it is very expensive to wed a lady in traditional marriage because of the myriad of demands by the woman’s family.

My cousin told me that as a result of this ungodly practice by families of the brides, a number of couples just come together in concubinage to start a family of their own without a proper fulfillment of God’s requirements for marriage.

A man and a woman should not just come together to start a family without their respective families meeting to agree and sanction the union as God requires.

However, in this area in question, the family of the brides deliberate create a hindrance as a result of an ungodly tradition that now drives others to live in sin because they cannot afford the high cost of a traditional wedding.

Dear friend, the family of the bride are wrong in their practice and any couple that uses that as an excuse to start a family without doing the right thing is wrong.

The families and those who live in concubinage as excuse for not being able to fund the cost of wedding are in danger of eternal damnation unless they repent and amend their ways.

My cousin said there was nothing any one could do about it since even young men are found amongst the family members nowadays making the same heinous demands of their male in-laws.

However, I reminded him of the ungodly practice of the killing of twins in Calabar in South South Nigeria many years ago that God used the Christian Missionary Mary Slessor to put an end through the Gospel message of our Jesus Christ.

In the same manner, it is the Christians amongst us that should go and continually preach to sow the seed of God’s infallible Word in the hearts of the practitioners of these ungodly tradition.

Then the good Lord would water the seed of His Word in their hearts to make them realise the sinfulness of their actions in driving others to sin and this would make them repent and return to the Lord Jesus Christ.

In essence, the work of Evangelism cannot be overemphasized in addressing this and other ungodly traditions in societies where it is highly required.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.

HOW DO YOU CONTROL VIOLENCE IN PEOPLE?

Hebrews 12:14 (AMPC)  “ Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration  and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.”   Dear people of God, I read sometime in December 2019 ago of a police inspector in Nigeria who shot and killed his colleague, a corporal, and the same shot injured another colleague, a deputy Superintendent of police after which the police inspector took his own life.   What could have led to such violence?   I also read of another unfortunate story of a lady killed December 25, 2019, Christmas Day, by her husband who had beaten her to a coma and then ran away after discovering what he had done. GOD CANNOT VIOLATE HIS WORD

  Psalm 89:34  “My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.” Dear people of God, today’s lead Bible text in Psalm 89:34 is a profound statement by God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. What this statement from God means is that there is nothing He has said in His Word that He will fail to perform.
