YOU CANNOT FORCE A PERSON TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST
God has given us a soul
that comprises a mind, will-power and emotion.
With our mind, we
process thoughts arising from an external stimuli and these thoughts manifest
in our outward emotions and reactions.
With our will-power, we
decide whether or not to follow a course of action.
It is pertinent to note
that you cannot force your own will on another person against his own will as it relates to spiritual matters.
The best you can do is to appeal to the person using information available to
you.
The good side of this is
that nobody can mislead you spiritually unless you decide on your own to do so.
On the other hand, if
your own idea is wrong and you hold on to it, then there is danger lurking
ahead.
The reason why I state
this fact is because some people want to share the Gospel with others and
believe those they share with must accept their own position.
This is wrong and could
lead to frustration when you do not understand the point I am making here.
When it comes to
spiritual matters of Repentance and Salvation, the work of a Christian is to
preach the Gospel, the work of the Holy Spirit is to convict the person who is
receiving the Gospel message while the Gospel recipient’s responsibility is to
use his will-power to decide whether or not to accept the Truth of God’s Word.
Dear friend, when you
understand these things, your approach to Evangelism would change.
You would approach it
with a sense of compassion for the lost soul that is rejecting the Truth of God
in Christ Jesus because of the danger of eternal damnation that awaits him if
he fails to repent.
Let us take note of what the Lord Jesus told His
Apostles whom He sent out on Mission work in Luke 10:10-11, “10 But whenever you go into a town and
they do not receive and accept and welcome you, go out into its
streets and say,
11 Even
the dust of your town that clings to our feet we are wiping off against you;
yet know and understand
this: the kingdom of God has come near you.
Now, look at the
implication for anyone rejecting the Gospel message as the Lord Jesus stated in
Luke 10:12, “I
tell you, it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that town.”
Dear friend, Evangelism is very necessary for every Christian to
undertake. However, since you have known that you cannot force a person against
his will to accept Christ Jesus, that also should not be an excuse not to
preach the Gospel because we are accountable to God for this as well – Ezekiel 3:17-21.
So go out, preach the Gospel of Christ, teach those who listen and show
them the Truth found in God’s Word in the Holy Bible but where they reject you,
leave but pray for their souls that the Lord would show mercy on them for them
to repent before it is too late.
Even God does not force anyone to accept Him and the reason this is so
is so that no one can accuse God of bias since it is by our free will-power we
decide what direction our life takes.
Please choose right today. Choose Jesus Christ the Messiah and obey Him
sincerely and with a genuine mind before it is too late.
Let me end with the Words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as
recorded in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I
stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and
opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and he [will eat]
with Me.”
May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and
share with others in Jesus’ Most Merciful Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
