LIVING RIGHT IN A DEPRAVED WORLD
The Word of God tells us clearly how the last days
on this earth would be and the kind of lives people would also lead.
Let us examine Scripture to see this in 2 Timothy
3:1-5 (AMPC), “BUT UNDERSTAND this, that
in the last days will come (set in) perilous times of great stress and trouble [hard to deal with and
hard to bear].
2 For
people will be lovers of self and[utterly]
self-centered, lovers of money and
aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will
be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful,
unholy and profane.
3 [They
will be] without natural [human] affection (callous and inhuman), relentless
(admitting of no truce or appeasement); [they will be] slanderers (false
accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and
conduct, uncontrolled and fierce,
haters of good.
4 [They
will be] treacherous [betrayers], rash, [and] inflated with self-conceit. [They
will be] lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.
5 For
[although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it
[their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such
people [turn away from them].”
At the time Paul the
Apostle wrote this message under inspiration of God’s Holy Spirit, some people who
read it must have wondered if Paul really knew what he was talking about
because the world was pretty normal at that time with family life being very
simple.
However, a look at today’s
world would show that Paul could not have written this message if he had not
been under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
All around the world
today, we find young boys and girls, men and women living a carefree life in
pursuit of sensual pleasures they can obtain from wherever they so desire.
With advance in technology
and easy access to the internet, many kids are being polluted daily by the
posts of others acting under the influence of demonic spirits.
On the internet, one can
find pornography, immoral music and immoral literature of any kind and so many
kids are caught up in the fad of watching, listening and reading such immoral materials.
It has become extremely
difficult to live and even raise children in such a depraved world all over and
so many parents are not even aware of the damaging influences their kids are
being exposed to daily.
These parents are so
busy chasing careers in places of employment to provide for the material needs
of their families whilst neglecting the most important need, which is the
spiritual one.
As you would notice in
the very last statement of verse 5 of 2 Timothy chapter 3 above, God’s Word
says we, that is Christians should avoid people who live such lives.
As Christians, we are commanded
and expected to evangelize or share the Gospel with lost souls who are leading
lives that are offensive to God so how do we speak to them when we are advised
to avoid them?
What the Bible is
telling us here is that we should never adopt such depraved lifestyle because
it would eventually damage one’s soul. We should never be close friends of
people who lead such lives even when we must preach to them the Truth of God’s
Word.
What we should rather do
is always allow God to lead us in every moment of our lives and in every
decision we want to take so as to be led by the Holy Spirit Who cannot do
wrong.
We as Christians are
expected to always stand out as the light of Christ to a darkened world by our
words and conduct.
In today’s world where
it is so difficult to determine right from wrong, one could fall prey into
immoral conduct and living without even realizing it.
However, when you make
Jesus the Lord of your life to strictly follow and obey Him in your words,
thoughts and deed, you are ever assured of leading a life that pleases God.
The standard with which
you should follow and daily assess yourself is contained in God’s Word in the
Holy Bible. When someone who is a spiritual leader says something or gives you
advice on any matter, you should ONLY accept it when it is consistent with what
God’s Word says.
Where God’s Word says
something contrary to what you are being told, the sensible thing to do is to
follow the advice, direction and instruction in God’s Word.
Parents must live by
example and set example according to God’s Word for themselves and their children
to abide.
You must be accountable
to God and you must never shy away from the truth when you are told because
whoever tells you the truth about your lifestyle is someone who truly loves
you.
Once you realize that
your life is deviating or has deviated from God’s standards in His Word, you
MUST repent, ask God for forgiveness and return to Him immediately before the
devil takes advantage of you to destroy you.
Ensure to study God’s Word
daily to learn from the events contained therein and to see God’s instructions
and expectations of His children so that you can obey it without question.
Where you find it
difficult to understand a passage of God’s Word, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to
speak to you to explain the message.
Since God loves and
cares for us and always wants the very best for us, you can be sure that He
would speak to you either directly or through someone else or through another
Scripture or the same Scripture you read.
This way, you can be
sure your life would be guided by God’s Word and Holy Spirit and all would go
well for you.
May the good Lord bless
you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus Most
Holy Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
