PREACHER, PREACH TO YOURSELF

In today’s world, many people are adept at quoting Scriptures of God’s Word in the Holy Bible and posting it on social media. However, it is very few that are adept at practising what they preach or post on social media.

No one should deceive himself or herself to only preach the Word without practising the truth of God’s Word because it is a very dangerous step to take.

Let us see what God’s Word says about such people in James 3:1 (AMPC), “NOT MANY [of you] should become teachers (self-constituted censors and reprovers of others), my brethren, for you know that we [teachers] will be judged by a higher standard and with greater severity [than other people; thus we assume the greater accountability and the more condemnation].”

This Bible verse should teach and warn those who are quick to become teachers of God’s Word that they should also ensure to assess their lifestyles by the same Word of God and not by the behaviour of others.

It is easy to fall prey to a relaxed lifestyle believing one is better than others spiritually whereas the true assessment of right standing with God is how we fare in relation to His Word.

Let us learn from what the Apostle Paul told us in 1 Corinthians 9:27, “But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit].”

Preaching the Gospel of Christ is serious business because every Christian or Believer in Christ is called to do so – Mark 16:15. However, adhering to the standards of the Gospel is equally important because it is that which determines where a person would end up after leaving this world.

So let us advise ourselves as we preach. O Thou preacher, preach also and be true to thyself as God’s Word demands.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.

HOW DO YOU CONTROL VIOLENCE IN PEOPLE?

Hebrews 12:14 (AMPC)  “ Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration  and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.”   Dear people of God, I read sometime in December 2019 ago of a police inspector in Nigeria who shot and killed his colleague, a corporal, and the same shot injured another colleague, a deputy Superintendent of police after which the police inspector took his own life.   What could have led to such violence?   I also read of another unfortunate story of a lady killed December 25, 2019, Christmas Day, by her husband who had beaten her to a coma and then ran away after discovering what he had done. GOD CANNOT VIOLATE HIS WORD

  Psalm 89:34  “My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.” Dear people of God, today’s lead Bible text in Psalm 89:34 is a profound statement by God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. What this statement from God means is that there is nothing He has said in His Word that He will fail to perform.
