ALWAYS HEAR BOTH SIDES OF A STORY
I learnt many years ago
to listen to both sides of a story to reach an informed position before taking
a decision over any matter.
The reason why this is
so important is because many people throw out rumours, half-truths and outright
lies sometimes just to make their side of the story appear credible.
This is the why the
justice system gives someone a chance to defend himself over an accusation to
enable the presiding judge deliver a verdict based on the facts of the case and
not just sentiments thrown up by either party to the case.
Let us examine what God’s
Word says about this in Proverbs 18:17 (GNTD), “The first person to speak in court always seems
right until his opponent begins to question him.”
It is quite unfortunate that some people do not understand
the gravity of telling lies and forming lies against another person just to
suit their evil intentions.
You find this very common in homes where the woman is trying
to get her partner to throw out his child from marriage to his late spouse.
Some people tell lies against others to the extent that their
listeners would take laws into their hands and harm an innocent victim of the
lie without hearing from the person.
It is pertinent to note that God Almighty and Father of my
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ knows the intents and purposes of every human
heart and so nothing is hidden from His Holy sight, not even your subconscious thoughts!
The lesson for everyone here is to always seek to hear the
other side of a story so you are not misled to sin against God by someone who
is trying to curry your favour by deliberate falsehood.
For the tale bearer of false
information, I would remind you of what God’s Word states in Exodus 23:1-3
(AMPC), “YOU SHALL not repeat or raise a false report; you shall not join with the wicked to
be an unrighteous witness.
2 You
shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you bear witness at a trial so
as to side with a multitude to pervert justice.
3 Neither
shall you be partial to a poor man in his trial [just because he is poor].”
Always remember that it is God Who has given
this directive and it is in your own best interest to meditate on it and obey
it without question.
A word is enough for the wise.
May the good Lord bless
you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous
Name, Amen.
