ALWAYS MAKE OUT QUALITY TIME TO BE GRATEFUL TO GOD
God called David the
second king of Israel a man after His (God’s) heart.
This is recorded in 1
Samuel 13:14, “But
now your (Saul’s) kingdom shall not continue; the Lord has sought out [David] a
man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince and ruler over His people,
because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”
Why did God refer to
David with such beautiful accolade? It is because David knew how to give thanks
and praise to God. It was David who instituted praise and worship of God in the
temple when he was king over Israel – 1 Chronicles 15:16.
David also danced with
so much joy when the ark of God’s covenant was returned to Israel from the home
of Obed Edom where it had been after release from the Philistines (2 Samuel
6:11).
David danced so much
that Michal, David’s wife and erstwhile king Saul’s daughter despised him (2
Samuel 6:16) and castigated David for such showing in public.
The Bible records that
Michal never had any children until her death and this could be attributed to
her careless statement against David as recorded in 2 Samuel 6:20.
Dear friend, if there is
one activity that delights our God and Father of my Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ, it is praise, worship and thanksgiving.
Many times when people
pray, they spend the bulk of their time asking God for one thing or the other
and spend very little or no time praising, worshiping and thanking Him for what
He has done for them.
If this is your habit, I
call on you today dear friend, to repent and change your approach to God.
Find time to meditate on
the good things God has done for you and even if you think you cannot recollect
any, the gift of life God has bestowed upon you is a reason to be thankful.
God protects you as you
go about your daily activities, provides food, shelter and clothing. Are these
not enough reasons to be thankful?
We thank God for the
Americans who through the grace of God inspired their forefathers to set aside
a day every 3rd Thursday of November annually as a day of thanksgiving.
It is a great thing to
worship the Lord and Creator of the Universe for all He has done, all He is
doing and all that He would do for us in the future.
However, I must warn
that before you embark on praise and worship of God, you must ensure you are in
right standing with Him.
For it is written in
Proverbs 28:9, “He
who turns away his ear from hearing the law [of God and man], even his prayer
is an abomination, hateful and revolting [to God].”
So please make sure you approach God with a pure and undefiled life,
having repented sincerely of sin and ensuring not to go back to sin or
disobedience of God’s commands again.
Then your praise and worship would be acceptable to God Who sees and
knows all hearts. God Himself says so in Jeremiah 17:10, “I the Lord search the mind, I try the heart, even to give to every man
according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”
The summary
of the message for today is that we must always make out time to praise and
worship the Lord for between 30 minutes to an hour once a week preferably but
we must ensure to do it from a position of right standing with God, which is a
position of sincere and diligent obedience to all His commandments.
We must
also ensure to praise and worship God daily during our prayers even if it is at
least 5 – 10 minutes.
May the good Lord bless
you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous
Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
