WHY YOU SHOULD SEEK GOD FIRST IN ALL THINGS
Hosea 8:4 (AMPC)
“They set up kings, but
not from Me [therefore without My blessing]; they have made princes or removed
them [without consulting Me; therefore], I knew and recognized [them] not.”
Dear people of
God, we should always seek God FIRST in all things because He is our Creator
and Father and He loves us with an everlasting love.
Even I who am
writing this piece sometimes fail to do so and I suffer unpleasant consequences
as a result.
You can see
from today’s lead Holy Bible text that the Israelites at a time set up kings,
appointed and removed princes without consulting God and God said they acted
without His blessing and He therefore neither knew nor recognized them.
Rather than
follow God Almighty, they were busy creating idol images from silver and gold
and worshipping inanimate objects.
I have studied
several portions of the Holy Bible and even followed the history of the
Israelites as they journeyed from Egypt through the wilderness and into the
promised land of Canaan and beyond that era.
One common
thing I see is that every time the Israelites sinned against God through
idolatry, God would allow them fall into the hands of their enemies who would
punish them.
Whenever they
repent, God would intervene in their favour to grant them freedom. Today, it is
the same God we are dealing with because He says He does not change – Malachi 3:6a;
Hebrews 13:8.
In this era of
Christianity, God and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has given us
His Word in the Holy Bible and His Holy Spirit to teach, guide and lead us always.
When you
deliberately invite the Holy Spirit into your life and study God’s Word, the
Holy Spirit would always guide, protect and bless you as long as you live in
strict obedience to God’s commandments.
On the other
hand, whenever you disobey God, you expose yourself to the devil who is always
ready to do evil to afflict God’s children.
This same
problem is what is playing out in churches and even countries in today’s world.
Many nations and
some churches are engaged in idolatry and outright disobedience of God’s laws
but they still pray to God and expect God to bless them.
Look at what
God’s Word says in Proverbs 28:9, “He
who turns away his ear from hearing the law [of God and man], even his prayer
is an abomination, hateful and revolting [to God].”
Therefore, nobody
or nation can disobey God deliberately and not expect some unpleasant
consequences.
Again, let
us see what God says in Hosea 8:1b, “[The
enemy] comes as a [great] vulture against the house of the Lord, because they
have broken My covenant and transgressed against My law.”
In some of
today’s churches, you find pastors misleading and misguiding their
congregations, abusing them verbally, sexually and financially, engaged in
idolatry and rituals to attract members and all manner of reprehensible atrocities.
With these atrocities,
they deliberately open the gates to the enemy satan to come in and they
erroneously believe God is still with them. How wrong they are!!
Dear friend,
God cannot be mocked, for it is what a person sows that he or she would reap.
It is time
for people and nations to realize their folly in thinking and believing that
they can do without God. They simply cannot because the consequences are devastating.
It is time
for them to repent sincerely, confess their sins to God, return to His ways and
consult Him in every area of their lives. Only then would things go well for
them.
A Word is
enough for the wise.
May the
good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others
in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.
