DO YOU WISH YOURSELF EVIL?
Dear friends, I know the topic of today’s message sounds
strange but it is necessary to ask this question because of the way some
professing Christians behave.
When a Pharisee who was a lawyer
asked the Lord Jesus Christ which was the greatest commandment of God, this is
what the Lord responded as stated in Matthew 22:37-40, “You
shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and
with all your mind (intellect). [Deut. 6:5.]
38 This
is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.
39 And
a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as [you do] yourself. [Lev.
19:18.]
40 These
two commandments sum up and upon
them depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Majority of humans who believe in God understand
what it means to love God above all else because God is our Creator, Father,
Provider, Protector and so on and so forth.
On the other hand, very few people understand what
it means to love our neighbour as ourselves.
The reason I say so is because a number of
Christians have disobeyed God’s commandment in this area by wishing and praying
evil over those who offend them and hoping that they would die soon.
The question now is, do you wish yourself evil?
Before you became a Christian, you were committing
sins and God in His infinite mercy UNCONDITIONALLY forgave you and saved you.
The same God has now commanded you to cooperate with Him to save other lost
souls but you want to do so on your own terms and not on God’s own terms.
No friend, that is disobedience and God does not
tolerate disobedience.
To love your neighbour as yourself does not mean
you would accept evil the person does you without speaking to the person about
it.
What the Lord expects you to do thereafter is to forgive
the person and pray for the person’s spiritual eyes of understanding to be
opened so the person could realize the danger of living in sin.
Once you display hatred and resentment to the
person, there is no difference between you and that person.
Always remember that Christ our God came into this
world as a Man and died for us even while we were sinners. He had the choice
not to but because of His infinite love and mercy, He willingly gave up His life
for our sake and resurrected on the third day to prove He was the Messiah.
To reciprocate this love, He has commanded us to
pursue peace with all humans and holiness without which no human would ever see
the Lord – Hebrews 12:14.
This is not a difficult command. In fact, no human
can harm you spiritually unless you permit it. This is because all Christians
have a God-given authority using the Name of Jesus Christ over the devil and
all his agents.
All you have to do is exercise this authority over
the devil in the Name of Jesus Christ through a command and satan must obey and
flee.
So what you should do as a Christian is what God
has commanded in His Word – pray for those who despitefully use you and readily
forgive those who offend you so that the Light of Christ in you would shine out
to them and God’s Spirit would minister to them to convict them and bring them
out of the darkness of sin and satanic bondage they are suffering.
Then, heaven would be happy with you for enlisting a soul in
the Book of Life as against praying for the death and destruction of a soul in
eternal damnation in hell.
May the good Lord bless
you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most
Holy Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
