GOD NEEDS YOUR CO-OPERATION, NOT YOUR HELP

When it comes to a Christian’s relationship with God Almighty and Father of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, it is important to distinguish between co-operating with God and helping God.

When you co-operate with God, it simply means you obey His Word in the Holy Bible and do what He says. When you want to help God, it means you are not acting with His instruction and this could most certainly have catastrophic consequences.

We see a typical example of this in Bible history with Abraham our Father in faith. At 75 years of age, God called him out of idolatry in his extended family and took him to another land to have a genuine spiritual relationship with God.

At this time, Sarah, Abraham’s wife was 65 years and both of them were still in search of the fruit of the womb.

God had promised to make Abraham not just a parent but a father of nations, which is why God changed his name from Abram to Abraham.

10 years after this promise, Sarah tried to help God achieve this purpose by giving her maid Hagar to Abraham to have intimate relations with. Hagar became pregnant and gave birth to Ishmael, Abraham’s firstborn at 86 years of age.

Thereafter, Hagar started mocking her mistress Sarah because she was yet to conceive and Sarah turned round to blame Abraham for her predicament – Genesis 16:1-5.

Abraham then co-operated with God in obedience to wait for the promised child and it took another 14 years before Isaac the promised child from God was borne by Sarah, Abraham’s spouse.

Later, one day, when Sarah saw Ishmael mocking Isaac, she told Abraham to send Hagar away and though Abraham was pained by this request, God instructed Abraham to grant Sarah’s wish to let go of Hagar and Ishmael even though God still promised to bless Ishmael because of His (God’s) covenant with Abraham – Genesis 21:9-14.


Dear friend, the lesson we learn from this message is that we must expressly hear from God before acting on any mission that concerns God directly.

For example, do not say you want to organize concert where rap, reggae or rock music is played as a means of evangelizing to lovers of such genre of music because God has said we should win souls for the Kingdom of heaven.

Remember that our duty as Christians is to evangelize, the Holy Spirit is to convict the souls we have preached the Gospel to and the souls are to use their own free will to decide whether or not to believe and accept the Gospel of Repentance and Salvation found only in Jesus Christ our Messiah.

It was Saul’s trying to help God that caused Saul his throne as Israel’s first king contrary to God’s clear instruction to destroy all living things in Amalek – 1 Samuel 15.

David, Israel’s second king and one of the greatest, tried to help God by ordering a census of the people of Israel, contrary to God’s instruction on how to take a census of Israelites to avoid a plague as contained in Exodus 30:12-16.

There is no record to show that David followed this directive when he numbered Israel.

As punishment, God gave David a choice of either three years of famine, or three months of devastation before his foes, while the sword of his enemies overtakes him, or else three days of the sword of the Lord and pestilence in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the borders of Israel – 1 Chronicles 21.

David wisely said God should do what was best as he did not want to fall into the hands of men but of God Who would show mercy.

Don’t try to help God and get yourself in trouble. Instead, co-operate with God by obeying His Word and receiving all your God-given blessings in Christ Jesus.

HOW DO YOU CONTROL VIOLENCE IN PEOPLE?

Hebrews 12:14 (AMPC)  “ Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration  and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.”   Dear people of God, I read sometime in December 2019 ago of a police inspector in Nigeria who shot and killed his colleague, a corporal, and the same shot injured another colleague, a deputy Superintendent of police after which the police inspector took his own life.   What could have led to such violence?   I also read of another unfortunate story of a lady killed December 25, 2019, Christmas Day, by her husband who had beaten her to a coma and then ran away after discovering what he had done. GOD CANNOT VIOLATE HIS WORD

  Psalm 89:34  “My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.” Dear people of God, today’s lead Bible text in Psalm 89:34 is a profound statement by God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. What this statement from God means is that there is nothing He has said in His Word that He will fail to perform.
