HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY SOUND GOSPEL TEACHING?
2 Timothy 4:3-4 (AMPC)
“For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold,
“For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold,
4 And will turn aside from hearing the truth
and wander off into myths and man-made
fictions.”
Dear people of
God, we are currently living in the era the Word of God in today’s lead text
above refers.
There are many
ministers of the Gospel today who have not been called by God but are trying to
help God and they then get themselves entangled with the devil.
As a result,
not only do they preach the wrong doctrine but they also practice wrongdoing as
a result of not being grounded in God’s Word.
I have an
elderly friend with whom I share the Gospel on a regular basis and whenever he
hears me preach about righteousness, holiness, eternity, heaven and hell and
show him evidence from the Bible, he usually asks if the pastors who dwell more
on prosperity than any other message do not know those portions of the Bible I
make reference to.
The truth is,
you cannot give what you don’t have and you can only give what you have.
Sound doctrine
is based more on the Word of God than on anything else. Yes, God speaks to
humans through their spirit but God speaks more to us through His Word when we
give it the importance and attention it deserves for our own good.
There is
nothing in this world that is more important than God’s Word. This fact has
been made clear in Psalm 138:2 (AMPC), “I
will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your Name for Your
loving-kindness and for Your truth and
faithfulness; for You have exalted above all else Your Name and Your Word and You have magnified Your Word
above all Your Name!”
Sound doctrine
is not based on your emotions or claiming to hear from God when what you are
saying cannot be supported by Scriptures. God cannot contradict Himself because
He is Omni-Scient, all knowing.
Whenever a
pastor tells you “God said”, please go and consult your Bible to confirm that
word is consistent with God’s Word. If there is a contradiction, my advice to
you is to take God’s Word because there is no error in it.
There are
times when I listen to the kind of statements professing Christians make and I
wonder if they really understand Christianity and God’s expectations.
As far as God
is concerned, Christianity is the ONLY acceptable way of life for any human,
which is why the Gospel must be preached to all creatures as God has commanded
in Mark 16:15.
When a Christian
now says he does not discuss religion so as not to offend others, he is going
against God’s command to share the Gospel with others.
When a pastor
says Christians and other non-Christian groups are worshipping the same God,
not only has he spoken a lie but he has misled thousands of his congregation
into error.
If we are all
worshipping the same God, why then is Evangelism mandatory as far as God is
concerned?
To evangelize
means to “convert or seek to convert someone to Christianity.”
So Evangelism
is a necessity to show others the error in their lives, point them in the only
acceptable Way of Christ Jesus and His unchanging standards in the Bible –
Ezekiel 3:17-21.
Do you attend
a church where worldly music is played and people dance to worldly music?
Worldly music is one that does not edify you such as hip hop, rap, heavy metal,
rock, alternative, pop, dance, reggae, etc.
To edify means
to “improve someone morally or intellectually.”
Do you attend
a church where ladies dress and expose their private body parts meant to be
seen only by their spouse? Or a place where young men wear earrings, cut all
manner of hair styles and sag their trousers in the name of fashion?
Has your
pastor told you there is nothing wrong with make-up, tattoos or women wearing
trousers?
Do you go to
church and also visit night clubs?
Does your
church tell you there is nothing wrong with taking alcohol and that it is only
drunkenness that is a sin?
Does your
pastor smoke cigarettes because his doctors advised him to do so on health
grounds?
Has your
pastor initiated and divorced his or her spouse and is still preaching the
gospel?
Is your pastor
involved in one financial or sexual scandal after another and continues to deny
it even when several people have openly testified?
Does your
church preach grace as a licence to live in sin under the excuse “once saved,
forever saved?”
Does your
church organize beauty pageants or modelling competitions for young ladies?
Dear friend,
if you have answered yes to at least one of these questions, you need to
re-examine your relationship with God.
God will not
reduce His standard of righteous and holy living, which is based on His Word.
Rather, God expects those Who are His children to be a reflection of His Son, our
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in every facet of their lives here on earth.
Remember, God
does not change – Malachi 3:6a; Hebrews 13:8.
If you have
felt offended at this message, again, I urge you, dear friend, to think twice
and ask God to open your eyes of understanding before it is too late.
If this
message has pierced your conscience, then it means there is hope for you.
All
you need do is ask God to have mercy on you, and then confess your wrongdoings
to God, promise to live right according to God’s Word and ask God to help you
attain this because that is His perfect will for all humans.
Finally, I
urge you again to read today’s lead Holy Bible text above because many are
being deceived and are deceiving others today.
Do not allow
any pastor to send you to an eternal damnation because you would only have
yourself to blame.
Jesus Christ
will judge this world some day in future but He is coming soon in Rapture to
take all those who are qualified to receive Him.
Let us see
what Jesus has said in Mark 4:24-25 (AMPC), “Be careful what you are
hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the Truth you hear]
will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you–and more
[besides] will be given to you who
hear.
25 For to him who has will more be given; and
from him who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away [by force],”
May the
good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others
in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.
