GOD RESPONDS TO HIS WORD AND NOT TO LAMENTATION
One of the easiest
things for a Christian to do is to begin to lament to God in prayer about his
or her situation, whether financial, medical or whatever it is.
There are many people
who believe when they do this, God would respond to their cry for help.
Unfortunately, there is
nowhere in the Holy Bible where a Christian is directed to pray in this manner.
Every human being born
into this world comes in as a helpless baby requiring the support of a family –
mother, father, older siblings, relatives, etc for nourishment, protection, cleaning,
and everything required to make the baby comfortable.
As the child grows, he is
taught and learns to do some of these activities by himself until he becomes an
adult when he can handle them seamlessly.
This same process applies
in Christianity. As a new born again child of God, there is little the person
knows about spiritual things so the person depends on a spiritually mature
Christian to study, understand and apply God’s Word to everyday situations.
However, it is pertinent
to note that for a natural born baby and a spiritually re-born person who
becomes a Christian, the level of experience of the person who attends to the
helpless baby and the new born Christian is very important.
Where the person is
in-experienced, the baby would suffer discomfort. In the same manner, the new
born Christian would not be taught properly where the teacher is not grounded
in the Word of God.
As a result, the new
born Christian would stumble and experience discomforts in life.
This is visible where
you hear Christians lamenting about their life’s situation when they encounter
a problem.
What they fail to
understand is that in prayer, God responds to His Word and not to lamentation.
The reason God responds
to His Word is because He is righteous and just and does not want us to believe
what is written in the Holy Bible is untrue.
God therefore expects
every Christian to know what His Word says and to do exactly what His Word
says. The way to know what the Word says is by study and meditation.
The way to do what the
Word says is by simple obedience by faith.
It is a bit of a
challenge for many Christians to understand this simple point because they were
taught wrong from inception to lament to God about their condition and when
they are taught to do what the Word of God says, they find it difficult to
adhere.
You will not blame God
for your situation because today you have known that the right way to pray is
to know what God has said in His Word, to thank God for it in prayer, to claim
it by right and to do just what it says.
I repeat, God does not
respond to lamentation or pity parties but God responds to His Word when you
pray to Him with it and thank Him for it.
If you want your prayer
to be answered, just follow this simple instruction.
I will end with a
Scripture to buttress this point in Philippians 4:6, “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by
prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make
your wants known to God.”
The second part is very
easy to do for all Christians, which is to pray to God about your specific
requests.
However, the condition
to do the second part is to do the first part, which is not to be anxious or
bothered about anything. This is where Christians have work to do and indeed, it
is doable just by handing over all your cares and concerns over to God Who
cares and loves you.
May the good Lord bless
you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Loving
Name, Amen.
