HOW HUNGRY ARE YOU FOR SPIRITUAL FOOD?
2 Thessalonians 3:1-2
“FURTHERMORE, BRETHREN, do pray for us, that the
Word of the Lord may speed on (spread rapidly and run its course) and be
glorified (extolled) and triumph,
even as [it has done] with you,
2 And that we may be delivered from perverse
(improper, unrighteous) and wicked (actively malicious) men, for not everybody
has faith and is held by
it.”
Dear people
of God, it was reported about 3 days ago that about 1.5million people in the UK
went a whole day without a meal as a result of the government lockdown measure
aimed at containing the spread of the coronavirus or covid-19.
Two days
ago, I also saw a video from a popular News Media showing people in Cape Town
South Africa breaking into a major store and robbing the store of the items
therein.
In Nigeria,
there have been a number of videos showing people either already robbed or
vehicles being robbed of food items by hungry citizens because of the same
lockdown measures the Government has placed to curb the covid-19 spread.
Reports
have it that a number of youth have started gathering on major roads beckoning
and stopping passing vehicles on essential duty or other reasons and asking for
money to buy food.
Some of
these youths are also reported to have started breaking into shops and people’s
homes to rob them of their valuables.
No doubt
many people especially in Africa are suffering seriously as a result of the
lockdown. No doubt the current situation has shown the whole world the many
years of neglect and outright wickedness of the political leadership of African
nations in paying no attention to the suffering of their citizens.
However,
there is no justifiable reason whatsoever why a hungry person should direct his
action to solving his problem on innocent hardworking citizens to also cause
hardship and pain by robbing them of their valuables as though they were the
cause of his problems.
The
sensible thing these youths ought to have done is organize a peaceful protest
along the street to be filmed by either the mainstream news media or one of
them and then post on the social media to draw attention to their plight for
immediate action by the government.
That being
said, I want to ask how many of these same folks hungry for physical food and
taking wrong actions, are that hungry for spiritual food, which is the
infallible Word of God in the Holy Bible?
If they
were that hungry for the Word of God, they would have discovered to their utter
amazement and excitement that the solution even to their hunger for physical
food is contained in the Holy Bible.
The Truth
is, every physical problem first takes place spiritually. So when the problem
is tackled and solved spiritually, then it would also manifest physically as
well.
See what
God says in Matthew 6:31-34, “Therefore
do not worry and be
anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to
have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?
32 For the Gentiles (heathen or unbelievers)
wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things,
and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.
33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of
all God’s kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and
then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
34 So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for
tomorrow will have worries and anxieties
of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.”
Dear
friend, this is the simple instruction God has given to every human being to
solve whatever basic need they have in this life.
How many
people, even Christians, believe this instruction and apply it to their lives?
Many handle God’s message the way they handle messages of human beings like
them, with levity, but they expect God to respond to their needs.
God says
His Words are Spirit and they are Life – John 6:63b.
When you
strive and seek spiritual food in the Holy Bible to nourish your own human
spirit, you would discover all the provision God has for those who have made up
their minds to believe His Word to become His children by repenting genuinely,
confessing sin to God, forsaking sin, accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and
Lord of their lives and living in uncompromisingly righteous obedience to
Jesus’ commands in the Holy Bible.
When you do
this, you become God’s responsibility as a Father to His child and you can be ABSOLUTELY
sure that God would never forsake or leave you because He gives you that
assurance in Hebrews 13:5.
Going about
harassing innocent citizens, breaking into people’s shops and homes to steal
their valuables just to satisfy physical hunger would solve your problem
temporarily.
However, unless
you repent sincerely and make restitution of your wrong and ungodly act, you
have an eternity to stay in HELL forever when you depart this world at death where
satan and his demons would torture you continuously until you are again cast along
with them into the lake of fire after God’s Righteous Judgement – Revelation
20:10; 13-15.
What then
would you have gained, young man or woman?
Repent and
give your life to Jesus Christ sincerely today and now, for tomorrow or later
may be too late for you.
May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on
it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Merciful Name, Amen.
