HOW SHOULD CHRISTIANS DEAL WITH SICKNESSES AND DISEASES?

 Mark 6:54-56 (AMPC)

As soon as they got out of the boat, [the people] recognized Him (JESUS CHRIST),

55 And they ran about the whole countryside, and began to carry around sick people on their sleeping pads or mats to any place where they heard that He was.

56 And wherever He came into villages or cities or the country, they would lay the sick in the marketplaces and beg Him that they might touch even the fringe of His outer garment, and as many as touched Him were restored to health.

 

Dear people of God, there were medical doctors in the time the Lord Jesus Christ was here on earth as a human being because Jesus made reference to medical doctors helping the sick in Mark 2:17; Luke 5:31.

However, there is no record in the Gospels where the Lord Jesus Christ referred a sick person to see a doctor. Jesus Christ dealt with every sickness in two ways – laying of hands and casting out demons where present by His Word – Matthew 8:16.

Also, when Jesus Christ sent out His disciples to go preach to the lost souls in Israel, He gave them power and authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to cure ALL kinds of diseases and ALL kinds of weaknesses and infirmities as recorded in Matthew 10:1, 8.

Interestingly, the Gospel according to Luke and Acts of the Apostles were written by Luke the Evangelist, who was a medical doctor himself (Colossians 4:14) and a disciple of Paul the Apostle.

There is also no record in the entire New Testament of any of the Apostles referring a sick person to see a medical doctor as they carried out their work of spreading the Gospel of Repentance and Salvation found only in Jesus Christ.

In fact, let us see what James said about dealing with sick people in James 5:14-16 (AMPC), “Is anyone among you sick? He should call in the church elders (the spiritual guides). And they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Lord's Name.

15 And the prayer [that is] of faith will save him who is sick, and the Lord will restore him; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

16 Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

From all these accounts above, is it not clear that sicknesses and infirmities are spiritual and not physical?

What is also clear here that all sicknesses and diseases are caused by the devil either DIRECTLY (where demons are present requiring casting out in the Name of Jesus Christ) or INDIRECTLY (by a virus or bacteria requiring laying of hands to deal with them).

All the people mentioned above were Christians.

Why then do today’s Christians prefer medical science as their first option as against prayer of faith in the Name of Jesus Christ?

Why are today’s Christians seemingly helpless in the face of a terminal disease? Why do they believe what the doctors say over what God has said in His Word in the Holy Bible?

Does it mean the power of God is no more effective? God Himself says He never changes as stated in Malachi 3:6a and Hebrews 13:8.

Since God’s power to heal and deliver remains the same and is still available even today, what then is the problem with Christians’ ability to receive divine healing for every sickness and disease?

I can narrow this problem of today’s Christians to 3 major issues:

(1) Ignorance of God’s Word. I’m sure if you are a Christian reading this, you are amazed at the information stated in this write up concerning sicknesses and diseases and how the Lord Jesus Christ, Apostles and early Christians dealt with it.

It is this ignorance of God’s Word that the devil capitalises on to afflict Christians with sicknesses and diseases because the devil knows an ignorant Christian is a powerless Christian.

This, unfortunately, is why a number of Christians die before their time through sicknesses and diseases.

God’s Word is clear in Matthew 8:17 and 1 Peter 2:24 that the Lord Jesus Christ took our infirmities and bore on His body our sicknesses and diseases and by His stripes we WERE healed.

How many of today’s Christians really understand the import of these Scriptures? How many of today’s Christians believe these Scriptures?

(2) Lack of faith, which of course is a direct result of ignorance of God’s Word. Since faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17), you cannot obtain faith by prayer or fasting but by study, meditation, belief in God’s Word in the Holy Bible and confession of the Word verbally.

 (3) Sin in the Body of Christ. This again, is a direct result of ignorance of God’s Word because many false preachers (agents of the devil) today have succeeded in deceiving ignorant Christians who fail to study their Bibles with false doctrines from the pit of HELL.

When God’s Word says ALL wrongdoing is sin (1 John 5:17a) and a false preacher tells you that you can continue to sin as a Christian because God sees Jesus Christ and not you when He (God) looks at you, the result is that the sinner has opened a spiritual door that the devil must come into to deal with him or her.

Have you ever read anywhere in the Bible that the Apostles and early Christians were living in sin and doing the work of Evangelism? Can the power of God be manifest for miracles in a congregation where there is sinful living from pastor to members when God says He is holy and we should also be holy?

Certainly not!

Again, you can see that the Apostle James in his letter to the Christian brethren mentioned the need for confession of sin as a necessity in dealing with sicknesses – James 5:14-16.

Dear friend, you can now see from today’s message that ALL sickness is spiritual. If it were physical, then Jesus and the early Christians would have referred sick people to medical doctors to help them.

You have also seen that the right way for Christians to deal with sicknesses and diseases is the same way Jesus Christ and the early apostles dealt with it, which is by casting out demons where present in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ or by laying of hands and prayer in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

You have also seen the serious need for Christians to study the Word of God to know their rights in Jesus Christ, refrain completely from living in sin and obeying God’s Word uncompromisingly so that the devil would not take advantage of them by afflicting them with sicknesses and diseases.

Without right knowledge and application of the Word of God through study, meditation, and confession, no Christian can successfully deal with sicknesses, diseases or any other problem of this life.

God’s Word and its application is non-negotiable because it contains the power of God when activated against situations to resolve permanently including sicknesses and diseases because God designed the human body to heal itself – Proverbs 4:20-22.

Dear friend, Jesus Christ is coming shortly to take ONLY those who are qualified according to His righteous standards in the Holy Bible.

Are you living a genuine life as His disciple? Are you ready for Him? Come to Jesus today, for tomorrow may be too late for you.
