“Now
it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman
named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39And she had a sister
called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His Word.
40
But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said,
“Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore
tell her to help me.”
41And
Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and
troubled about many things. 42But one thing is needed, and Mary has
chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Dear people of God, in life we are focused on many activities as
we navigate this world.
In church especially during special occasions, members are
assigned different tasks that they must ensure is executed properly for the
success of the program.
While all activities are important, there is that one that is
most important, which is when the Word of God is being preached by the minister
assigned for that task.
Unfortunately, the organizers of the programs sometimes forget
that they must suspend all other activities to feed on God’s Word, food for
their souls (mind, will and emotion), which contains the power to save their
souls as stated in James 1:21.
This was the same problem Martha had as seen in today’s main
Holy Bible text above. When the Lord Jesus visited their home, Martha was busy
preparing a nice dish for everyone including the Lord whilst Mary her sister
sat at the Lord’s feet to hear His Word.
Martha protested to the Lord that she was doing all the work and
that He should direct her sister to help her in the kitchen but she got a
response she was not expecting from the Lord.
Jesus told Martha clearly that she was involved in many
activities but that only ONE was needed and Mary her sister had chosen the
better part, listening to God’s Word, which was to Mary’s own advantage.
With this response, the Lord was making it clear to Martha and
the rest of us that no activity is more important that feeding on His Word
during a sermon or a Bible study program whether in a group or personal study.
Jesus also made it clear that while physical food for the body
was important, spiritual food for the soul was much more important.
Physical food gives the body the nutrient it needs and discards
the unwanted part passed out of the body as waste whereas spiritual food, God’s
Word, nourishes the spirit, soul and body and nothing is released from it
outside the recipient.
Dear friend, for your own good, please take God’s Word seriously
for in it God speaks to you and shows you how to navigate this sinful and
difficult world, and how to overcome by God’s Divine intervention every single
challenge that the devil and his agents throw at you.
Always remember that there are many issues in life but the
individual whose main daily focus rests on God’s Word in study, meditation,
confession and action to obey uncompromisingly is the wisest person to walk the
face of this earth.
Jesus’ coming for His children in the Rapture is imminent. Are
you His child? Are you ready for Him?
Come to Jesus Christ the Word of God today and now, for tomorrow
or later may be too late for you.
May the good Lord bless you as you heed
His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Merciful Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
