ENFORCING AN EVIL DIRECTIVE

2 Samuel 11:14-17 (AMPC)
In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah.

15 And he wrote in the letter, put Uriah in the front line of the heaviest fighting and withdraw from him, that he may be struck down and die.

16 So when Joab was besieging the city, he assigned Uriah opposite where he knew the enemy's most valiant men were.

17 And the men of the city came out and fought with Joab, and some of the servants of David fell. Uriah the Hittite died also.

Dear people of God, today’s main Holy Bible text is an account of David the second king of Israel’s final effort at covering up his adultery with Bathsheba, by eliminating her husband Uriah by deliberately placing him in the fiercest part of Israel’s battle with their enemy.

Having discovered from Bathsheba that she was pregnant from adultery, David had initially recalled her spouse Uriah from the battlefield and sent him home to his wife but Uriah refused because of his loyalty to his country as a soldier.

He did not want to be at home with his spouse while his colleagues were in the battlefield, so he passed the night with king David’s men at the palace.

David subsequently made Uriah drunk after a feast with him and sent him home but Uriah still refused to go home to his spouse.

It was after these failed efforts David now gave an evil directive to Joab the army commander that led to Uriah’s elimination in the battlefield.

David then took in Bathsheba as his spouse after the murder of her husband.

Several years ago in Nigeria, there was a soldier who claimed to have become a born again Christian and admitted during trial for murder of several high-profile Nigerians that he was acting on the orders of his superior officer.

His superior officer in his own trial denied any murders attributed to that heinous regime but admitted that the regime maintained a squad that was responsible for containing and repelling any attacks on the regime.

How many people in this world can damn all consequences and decline enforcing an evil order from their superior?

Very few but they do exist.

During his many attempts at eliminating David because he viewed him as an enemy, Israel’s first king Saul once ordered the elimination of 85 persons, Ahimelech and his entire family of priests.

The king Saul accused Ahimelech of conspiring with David against him because Ahimelech once offered bread and water to David and his men. During that encounter however, Ahimelech did not know anything about Saul’s attempts at David’s life because he knew David as the king Saul’s son-in-law and captain of his bodyguard.

David also never told Ahimelech anything about Saul’s attempt on his life.

It is pertinent to note however, that king Saul’s bodyguards did not carry out their king’s evil instruction to kill Ahimelech and his entire family of priests because they knew the Divine consequences of harming the Lord’s first born or priest – 1 Samuel 22:16-17.

However, it was Doeg, the king’s chief herdsman who was present when David met Ahimelech and who reported the matter to king Saul that carried out the evil order of the king and slaughtered 85 priests!

Nigerians know the military ruler who murdered high profile Nigerians died suddenly in the office and Christians who have studied their Bibles also know that king Saul was mortally wounded in battle and later committed suicide.

Dear friend, human beings need to understand that no sin escapes God and you must never accede to any evil requests/orders especially for material gratification.

Both the evil request giver and the enforcer are in deep trouble with God unless they repent and confess their evil action to either the persons they have harmed or their relatives.

As the Holy Bible states in Romans 14:12 (AMPC), And so each of us shall give an account of himself [give an answer in reference to judgment] to God.”

Again, hear what Jesus Christ is saying in Luke 12:4-5 (AMPC), I tell you, my friends, do not dread and be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have nothing more that they can do.

5 But I will warn you whom you should fear: fear Him Who, after killing, has power to hurl into hell (Gehenna); yes, I say to you, fear Him!

Jesus’ coming for His children in the Rapture is imminent. Are you His child or are you born again? Are you ready for Him?

Come to Jesus Christ the Word of God today and now, for tomorrow or later may be too late for you.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.

Gabriel Ama.
