DOING BUSINESS WITH THE WICKED

2 Chronicles 20:35-37 (AMPC)

“35 After this, Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly.

36 He joined him in building ships to go to Tarshish, building them in Ezion-geber.

37 Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, because you have joined Ahaziah, the Lord will destroy your works. So the ships were wrecked and unable to go to Tarshish.”

Dear people of God, as someone gets close to God and matures in Christianity, there is a certain level of behaviour God expects of you.

The way God treats a baby or immature Christian is different from the way He treats a mature Christian who has experienced the Truth of God’s Word, God’s attributes and character.

What God would overlook for a baby Christian, He would not overlook for a mature Christian.

For instance, the Lord once told the general overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye that he (Adeboye) should take out the name tag on his table if he wanted to walk with God.

The name tag on his office table read, Reverend Dr. E.A. Adeboye, BSc., MSc., PhD. God wanted and expects Adeboye like all other mature Christians to be humble in their fellowship with God and humans.

It is not as if God would tolerate pride from an immature Christian but God would use a mature Christian to speak, using God’s Word in the Bible, to such a person to amend his or her ways.

Also, the General Superintendent of a Church once said that God told him that a member of his congregation had died because of sin and that if he was not yet saved and a Christian, he would not have died when he did. This is because this person knew the truth about God’s Word but decided to live in sin and satan took him out as a result.

Looking at today’s lead Bible text, we see Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah who knew God’s ways go to join forces with Ahaziah the king of Israel to build ships for business.

However, the Bible says Ahaziah did very wickedly in God’s sight.

God then sent the prophet Eliezer to tell Jehoshaphat the consequence of joining with a person who did very wickedly, which was that Jehoshaphat’s works would be destroyed, and this was exactly what happened.

In today’s world, one major lesson we can draw from this record of events is that God does not expect a Christian to do business with another Christian who does not pay tithes or a Christian who cheats others or lives and deals very wickedly with others because such a person is breaking God’s law.

If you go ahead as a Christian to enter into business dealings with such a person, that business would not progress because the business is exposed as a result of violation of God’s commandments to pay tithes and not to deal wickedly with others.

This exposure gives a LEGAL RIGHT to the devil who hates Christians to cause havoc and God would not respond to help the person, not until the person’s violation of God’s command stops.

Dear friend, as a Christian, please take heed to this message and no matter how lucrative a business deal appears, do not enter into it when the other person is a Christian you know to be a tithe defaulter or who deals wickedly.

Now, you may ask, what if you do not know the Christian’s character? My answer to that is for you to prayerfully ask God whether or not you should enter into business with the person.

I can assure you that God would CERTAINLY respond.

I speak from experience because recently I had cause to enter into a business dealing with someone I did not know well who claimed to be a Christian. I prayed to God to find out whether or not to do business with the person.

The very next day God responded through a close friend of mine with a dream that was a clear warning to me but I foolishly chose to ignore the warning and I went ahead to enter the business deal.

In a little over a month, I lost all the money I put into that business!!!

I knew I caused it because God warned me but I did not heed the warning. I have since repented and asked God to forgive me and I will listen to His warning next time.

A word is enough for the wise.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.
