PUT YOUR TRUST ONLY IN GOD
Jeremiah 17:5-8 (AMPC)
“5 Thus says the Lord: Cursed [with great evil] is the strong man who trusts in and relies on frail man, making weak [human] flesh his arm, and whose mind and heart turn aside from the Lord.
6 For he shall be like a shrub or a person naked and destitute in the desert; and he shall not see any good come, but shall dwell in the parched places in the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.
7 [Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.”
Dear people of God, the West African nation of Nigeria concluded political elections into the nation’s number one seat for President, National Assembly, Gubernatorial and State Assembly positions in February and March 2023.
There were so many expectations, hopes dashed, hopes rekindled, violence, killings, fighting, destructions and so on and so forth.
As usual, reports were rife of electoral malpractices, voters’ inducement with money, actual rigging through multiple thumb printing of ballot papers by the same political actors with video evidence.
Some political parties had the ballot papers beforehand and gave to their agents to thumb print even before actual voting started.
There were reports of alteration of actual voting figures at collation centres by the official electoral officers in collusion with political party agents.
All these were done because some wanted to come into political power or maintain their grip on political power. Their agents deliberately aided them in the malpractices because of what they stood to benefit before and after the elections when their principals have been “announced” as winners.
My post today is directed at those whose hopes appear to have been dashed because their preferred candidates lost the elections.
Some believed their candidate would have changed the fortunes of the nation for better compared to what it is now if he had been victorious at the ballot.
Dear friend, I want you at this time to look again at the lead Holy Bible text above from Jeremiah 17:5-8.
God says there is a curse on a person who puts his trust on his fellow human and that nothing good would come to such person because his heart is turned from God His Maker.
On the other hand, the Lord says there is perpetual blessings on the one whose trust is in God his Maker and that such person is like a tree planted by the river whose leaves never go dry and who yields fruits perpetually.
My question to those who are disappointed in the results of the elections is, why is your trust in your fellow man? Are you not aware of this Scripture?
If you truly claim and believe that God is your Father, why then are you worried about your future? Have you ever taken time to study God’s Word to see the covenant God has entered into with His children, that is, those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Messiah and who lead a genuine life of righteous obedience to God’s commandments?
Why the grumbling? Why the complaining? Why the lamentation? Whoever told you that it is your preferred candidate that can solve your problem?
Why are you placing yourself under a curse by your own admission of your candidate’s ability to deliver on electoral promises?
Have you ever known politicians as people who keep their word?
Again, let us look at God’s Word in Psalm 146:3-8, “Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 When his breath leaves him, he returns to his earth; in that very day his [previous] thoughts, plans, and purposes perish. [I Cor. 2:6.]
5 Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is he who has the God of [special revelation to] Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God, [Gen. 32:30.]
6 Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, Who keeps truth and is faithful forever,
7 Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets free the prisoners,
8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the [uncompromisingly] righteous (those upright in heart and in right standing with Him).”
Dear friend, you can see from these Scriptures that it is ONLY God that is the solution to every human problem.
In addition, however, I want you to take note verse 8 of this scripture to see the condition under which God would provide all your needs in this world, which is that you MUST be in right standing with Him.
You must be uncompromisingly righteous to get the best from God because satan would always try to take you out if you are not fully entrenched in Christ Jesus.
My admonition to you reading this today is to forget about politicians who cannot help or save you. As God’s Word tells us in Psalm 146:4, they will die one day and all their plans perish with them.
Let your trust absolutely be in God always and you will never lack for any good thing in this life, neither would God ever disappoint you.
May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
