YOUR SPIRIT MATTERS MORE THAN YOUR BODY
Luke 12:4-5 (AMPC)
“4 I tell you, My friends, do not dread and be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have nothing more that they can do.
5 But I will warn you whom you should fear: fear Him Who, after killing, has power to hurl into hell (Gehenna); yes, I say to you, fear Him!”
Dear people of God, sometime in March 2019 I attended a burial ceremony of a friend’s mother. The interment took place at a well catered for graveyard. I saw that some families placed photos of their dead loved ones at the place and some were personalities I knew while they were alive.
My friend then went on to tell me about the mind boggling costs spent to procure the burial space where some of these people were buried and I marveled at the information.
There is no doubt that not everyone at that place entered heaven just because they and their families had enormous riches with which to bury them and throw lavish parties for the sympathizers that thronged the place when they died.
In many societies just like ours, a lot of fanfare takes place when someone dies, especially a prominent person of high societal standing by human standards.
What does the Word of God say about human beings? Let us examine God’s Word in Psalm 103:15-18, “As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it and it is gone, and its place shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord are from everlasting to everlasting upon those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, and His righteousness is to children's children– [Deut. 10:12.]
18 To such as keep His covenant [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it] and to those who [earnestly] remember His commandments to do them [imprinting them on their hearts].
Does God assess humans the way humans assess themselves? The answer is a clear No!
God is very much interested in every human being as His creation. Additionally, and more importantly, God is interested in any human whose spirit aligns, accepts, believes and obeys His commandments in the Holy Bible.
It does not matter whether you are rich or poor, male or female, short or tall, fat or thin, handsome or not, educated or illiterate, cultured or uncouth, sick or healthy etc. What really matters to God is whether you have accepted Him Who created you and whether you are obedient to His laws.
It therefore means that a person’s spirit is very important and where that spirit ends up after this life is of tremendous value to God.
It further means that every human being must as a matter of urgency pay great attention to his spirit to ensure that it is healthy and aligned with the will of God.
What is the will of God? It is that all humans love God above all else and love their fellow humans as they love themselves.
When you love God above all else, you would certainly do all within your power not to offend Him in anyway. You would study His commandments in the Holy Bible to know what it says and then diligently obey it.
When you love your fellow humans as yourself, you would not want to deliberately hurt them but treat them with respect and courtesy. You would look for the interest of others as you would yours.
These are the things that matter to God and these are the things that align a person’s spirit with the will of God.
Dear friends, pay attention to your life as it relates to God’s commandments here on earth because you may not have any chance to make amends if you die suddenly without having a personal knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and having a firm relationship with Him as your Saviour and Lord.
Today and now is the moment of decision, for tomorrow and later may be too late.
May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Merciful Name, Amen.
Gabriel Ama.
