YOUR SPIRIT MATTERS MORE THAN YOUR BODY (2)

Romans 2:6-8 (AMPC)

For He (God Almighty) will render to every man according to his works [justly, as his deeds deserve]: [Ps. 62:12.]

7 To those who by patient persistence in well-doing [springing from piety] seek [unseen but sure] glory and honor and [the eternal blessedness of] immortality, He will give eternal life.

8 But for those who are self-seeking and self-willed and disobedient to the Truth but responsive to wickedness, there will be indignation and wrath.”

Dear people of God, in my first post on this topic, I discussed the intrinsic value of the human spirit over the body and the need to pay serious attention to the spirit as long as one is alive on this earth.

It is amazing how much attention the menfolk and especially womenfolk pay to their bodies these days.

Some boys and men are careful about how they look physically by ensuring they are well shaven, take a shower at least twice every day in the morning and evening, wear clean clothes, use body sprays and perfumes on their clothing to smell nice.

As for the women folk, it is common knowledge the extra effort women place on themselves to look nice in physical appearance.

In fact, unlike the men where it is easier to distinguish between a financially well to do man and one who is still struggling financially, the same could hardly be said about women.

Majority of women go all out to dress well and take care of their body. In fact, I have heard comments where some women claim to spend between 1 to 2 hours wearing make-up and all the artificial cosmetics and peripherals they adorn on their faces before stepping out of their homes to go for the day’s business.

Now, I want to ask a very simple question, which is, how many of these men and women folk spend the same amount of time in prayer and study of God’s Word in the Holy Bible?

If you are spending so much time caring for your body, and you are aware that the body deteriorates daily with age, you should care much more for your spirit that never deteriorates at all!!

Unfortunately, this is hardly the case for many people, Christians inclusive.

They are experts at body care and discussions about people and events, but when it comes to discussions on the most important matter, the infallible Word of God, they can hardly comment because it is not of interest to them or they have little or no knowledge of God’s Word.

The Bible should be the most important Resource for every Christian and indeed every human being because it is Spirit and it is Life as the Lord Jesus Christ makes us understand in John 6:63b.

Today’s main Holy Bible text above tells us there is a life after this present one in which the Lord Jesus Christ will reward every human being according to how they lived their lives here on this earth.

Every living person should be concerned about this statement and pay serious attention to it.

The yardstick that would be used to assess everyone is the Word of God, the Holy Bible, the Eternal Resource that is timeless and ageless.

Every human should make a real and concerted effort to study to know what God’s Word says, to meditate on His instructions and then to obey God faithfully in action.

In addition, everybody that comes to a knowledge of the Truth that is God’s Word must not keep the message to himself but share with those who are yet to know and benefit from the same Truth beginning with his immediate family members.

Just as you exercise your body, you must always exercise your spirit daily and the way to do so is to engage in spiritually lifting activities – Praise and Worship, Prayer, fasting, Bible study, attendance at Church Fellowships, Evangelism, etc.

For as it is written in God’s Word in 1 Timothy 4:8-9, “For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.

9 This saying is reliable and worthy of complete acceptance by everybody.”

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word this day, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Precious Name, Amen.

Gabriel Ama.
