WHY YOU MUST PRAY

 James 5:13 (AMPC) 

“Is anyone among you afflicted (ill-treated, suffering evil)? He should pray. Is anyone glad at heart? He should sing praise [to God].”

 

Dear people of God, a number of times, I come across social media comments where someone says it is not prayer to God that is required to solve problems in this world but action by humans.

 

The comments about not needing to pray to God is borne purely out of ignorance. The proponents of such comments base their point on the Truth that God is Omniscient (knows everything) and so He is aware of the problems of this world and so if God refuses to do anything, then that is God’s will.

 

Again, this is another wrong statement borne out of ignorance.

 

God gave man this world at the beginning and God gave man authority over the world – Genesis 1:27-28. Through deceit by satan, man disobeyed God’s commands and sinned, then lost control of the earth and ceded his God-given authority to satan.

 

This is why the Bible calls satan the god of this world in 2 Corinthians 4:4. Ever since, Adam’s lease of this world continues to run until the appointed time when God would act against satan according to His Divine purpose.

 

When the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth as a human and died for our sins, He reclaimed and restored man’s authority back to man. Two Scriptural evidence of this fact are in Matthew 28:18-19 and Luke 10:19.

 

Let us also examine a key Scripture about the Lord Jesus after His death and resurrection in Ephesians 1:22, “And He (God) has put all things under His (Jesus Christ’s) feet and has appointed Him (Jesus Christ) the universal and supreme Head of the church [a headship exercised throughout the church],

 

This Scripture tells us that as far as this present world is concerned, the Lord Jesus Christ is ONLY able to exercise authority over the affairs of this world through the Church because He has ceded that authority to the Church.

 

It therefore means that if Christians do not pray, satan, the god of this world would exercise undue influence over the affairs of mankind and cause chaos everywhere as we see in today’s world.

 

However, when Christians pray, they are able to move God to intervene in the affairs of this world. Again, one may ask why this is so? It is so because God is a God of integrity and a God of His Word.

 

Now because God says in His Word that He has given authority over the earth to the church, and because God cannot violate His Word, Christians are mandated, required of necessity to pray for God to respond to the affairs of this world.

 

A Christian who therefore fails to pray is weakening the body of Christ and giving satan and his agents avoidable edge over himself (Christian) and other Christians.

 

Dear friend, do not joke with prayer and when you pray, speak to God first in hymns, psalms and thanksgiving.

 

Lift up hands during prayer in thanksgiving first for all mankind, then nations and leaders of nations before you pray for your family and yourself.

HOW DO YOU CONTROL VIOLENCE IN PEOPLE?

Hebrews 12:14 (AMPC)  “ Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration  and holiness without which no one will [ever] see the Lord.”   Dear people of God, I read sometime in December 2019 ago of a police inspector in Nigeria who shot and killed his colleague, a corporal, and the same shot injured another colleague, a deputy Superintendent of police after which the police inspector took his own life.   What could have led to such violence?   I also read of another unfortunate story of a lady killed December 25, 2019, Christmas Day, by her husband who had beaten her to a coma and then ran away after discovering what he had done. GOD CANNOT VIOLATE HIS WORD

  Psalm 89:34  “My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.” Dear people of God, today’s lead Bible text in Psalm 89:34 is a profound statement by God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. What this statement from God means is that there is nothing He has said in His Word that He will fail to perform.
