SEEK FIRST GOD’S KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS (8)

Matthew 6:31-33 (AMPC)

“Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?

 

32 For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.

 

33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.”

 

 

Dear people of God, today, we look at part 8 of this series of how to seek FIRST God’s kingdom and His righteousness as a condition precedent to receiving God’s unqualified blessings.

 

Today, we look at the law of righteousness.

 

I heard an interesting testimony a few hours earlier today.

 

A friend told me how in his place of business there is a man who is a major dealer in office stationery and this fellow never advances credit sales to anyone.

 

This friend says one day this office stationery dealer heard him and his staff praying and later on came to meet him and expressed delight in his relationship with God.

 

The office stationery dealer then went ahead to tell him that if he ever needed stationery of any quantity, he should not hesitate to say so and he would gladly oblige him on credit basis!!

 

Dear friend, why did this stationery dealer react this way? Is it because of the perceived righteousness of my friend? Maybe and maybe not because it is only God that knows who is serving and worshipping Him.

 

However, because my friend openly honoured God in public with his staff in praise, worship and prayer, the same God in turn honoured my friend with an amazing business deal with someone who never gives his products on credit!!

 

God has made it clear in 1 Samuel 2:30c, “For those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”

 

It is written in Proverbs 28:9, “He who turns away his ear from hearing the law [of God and man], even his prayer is an abomination, hateful and revolting [to God].”

 

The individual who disobeys God’s laws cannot claim to believe what God has said in His Word because his actions say otherwise.

 

On the other hand, the person who obeys God believes God because his actions show it as well. Such a person is righteous according to God’s Word – Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:3; Galatians 3:6.

 

And such person would surely be blessed because God has promised blessings to those who obey His Word.

 

So, the righteous person has no problem because he is already blessed of God.

 

Now, one may ask, how come some righteous people struggle financially and even with their health?

 

The simple answer to this question is that such people who are righteous as a result of obedience to God’s Word are either unaware of their rights as Christians or are failing to exercise their rights or don’t know how to exercise their rights as Christians even when they become aware.

 

These rights have been freely given when the Lord Jesus Christ shed His precious blood for us on the Cross of Calvary.

 

However, you must consciously study and meditate on God’s Word daily to know those rights, agree with God in prayer concerning those rights, thank God for the rights and claim them in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

 

This is when it would manifest in your life physically.

 

Another advantage of living a righteous life is the assurance of eternal life once one exits this world. Nothing else is worth more than this reward as far as God is concerned.

 

Righteousness shows not just in words but in action in our relationship with God and fellow humans.

 

Therefore, the sensible person must live a righteous life in obedience to God as a condition showing he is seeking FIRST God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness and surely, God would bless him immensely in fulfilment of His eternal covenant with Christians, His children.

 

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.
