ALL PARENTS WILL ACCOUNT TO GOD FOR THEIR CHILDREN’S SOULS
Psalm 127:3 (AMPC)
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. [Deut. 28:4.]”
Dear people of God, an online dictionary has one definition of the word HERITAGE as a special or individual possession; an allotted portion.
So when God’s Word says children are a heritage from the Lord, it means there are a special possession or an allotted portion from God to their parents.
As the Word of God tells us in Romans 14:12, every human being will account to God for all that we do from the time we were born until when we depart from this world.
The Bible tells us in James 1:17 (NKJV), “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
Since we are going to give account to God for everything, this includes talents and gifts God has given us.
Since children are a gift from God to parents, therefore all parents MUST also account for the gift of their children.
Just this evening during our weekly church program, we heard a sad news that two teenagers had committed suicide because they failed the West African School Certificate Examinations (WASC or WAEC).
Without a doubt, these unfortunate teenagers have entered into eternal damnation because they took their lives, which belongs to God and therefore violated God’s commandment not to kill.
However, the parents of these dead kids also bear enormous responsibility for this unfortunate incident. How exactly did they raise their children?
The Word of God tells us in Proverbs 22:6 (AMPC), “Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.” [Eph. 6:4; II Tim. 3:15.]
God’s Word also advises in Ephesians 6:4, “Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord.
If you as a parent castigate your children and call them all manner of names because of a failure in examination whilst comparing them with other children, you are violating God’s Word in Ephesians 6:4 and this can drive them to commit suicide.
If what you do as a parent is teach your child that failure is final and anyone who does not do well in formal school where a certificate is awarded would amount to a failure in life, not only are you operating in utter ignorance but you are sowing a bad seed in the child’s mind that can lead to suicide like the unfortunate incident under reference.
I have once read years ago of a teenage boy in the University in Europe who committed suicide and in his suicide note, he wrote that he committed the ungodly act because he had found out that he was not going to graduate with a First Class Honours Degree and so he had failed his parents.
When you keep comparing your kids to other children who appear to do better than yours academically and abuse your kids without knowing the background and pattern of study of the other kids, you are setting up your kids for suicide.
Failure in an examination is not failure in life. It is not the worst thing that can happen to a person.
The worst thing that can happen to a person is to leave this world and miss heaven because the person died without believing in and accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and where he or she did, failed to adhere strictly in righteous obedience to God’s commands in the Holy Bible.
You can rise above any failure in this life and begin to do well because failure in NOT FINAL. However, you cannot come out of an eternal damnation in HELL at death because that is FINAL.
Let me make this point very clear to all parents – A person’s spiritual life, and that includes yours and your children’s is of much more importance to God than the person’s material achievements in this life because your spiritual standing with God determines your eternal destiny when you depart this world.
Unfortunately, many parents today have failed and continue to fail in this area because they raise their kids to depend on themselves for material achievement and not on God Who Alone can provide all their needs.
When you fail to raise your child(ren) in the proper way in the knowledge of and absolute trust and dependence on the Lord God Almighty and Father of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, you have failed as a parent.
It does not matter how much wealth and resources you have left for your child(ren). You have set them up for failure and you will surely account to God for this.
Not only can such failure lead them to commit suicide, even the bad company they keep of mockers and revilers can also lead them to commit suicide because they would not want to be seen as failures in the eyes of their friends, the society and the world at large.
On the other hand, once you have raised your children to fear and depend only and absolutely on God, they would never fear genuine mistakes and academic failure because they would know and understand that God is their provider and would bring them out of any untoward situation to victory that can only happen to a follower and believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Such kids would never be bothered about the negative comments their friends, the society and the world speaks about them because God’s Word tells us in Proverbs 18:10 (AMPC), “The Name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong”
The choice therefore is yours, dear parents. Raise your children to fear and trust in God whilst showing example of your own personal life to them daily and you can be sure that they would end up well just as God’s Word says in Proverbs 22:6.
