ENTICING OR PROVOKING OTHERS TO SIN

Luke 17:1-2 (AMPC)

“AND [Jesus] said to His disciples, Temptations (snares, traps set to entice to sin) are sure to come, but woe to him by or through whom they come!

2 It would be more profitable for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were hurled into the sea than that he should cause to sin or be a snare to one of these little ones [lowly in rank or influence].

Dear people of God, there are many ways a person could entice or provoke others to sin, some of which include the under listed:

(1) Provocative dressing as seen in ladies
(2) A lecturer threatening a student to sleep with him to obtain pass mark in examinations
(3) A parent directing the child not to exchange greetings with a neighbour with whom the parent has had a quarrel
(4) An office supervisor asking the subordinate to falsify records or engage in fraudulent acts for personal interests
(5) A pastor pressuring a single or married female church member to have illicit affairs
(6) An office supervisor threatening a subordinate with a sack if she fails to give in to his ungodly advances
(7) Cracking ungodly and provocative jokes against someone that leads to a quarrel or physical fight that may result even in death
(8) Embezzling government or company funds by civil servants or private sector workers because of fear of the future life or retirement without any livelihood or hope of a pension.
(9) An employer that deliberately fails to pay staff salaries, thus enticing the staff to steal company funds.

I could go on with several examples but let me stop at the ones above that are common place in everyday life.

My Lord Jesus Christ has said in today’s lead Holy Bible text above that the person who entices or provokes others to sin is cursed with great sorrow and distress.

Additionally, the person provoked or enticed to sin needs to repent and return to God before it is too late because there is no excuse whatsoever to sin against God.

It is pertinent at this point to recollect the life of our Lord Jesus Christ Who came into this world as a human being, faced similar temptations as we do daily as humans but never sinned once – Hebrews 4:15.

One may argue and say but the Lord Jesus Christ was and is the Son of God, which is why he never sinned.

I would remind such people that if this were totally correct that Jesus operated with His divine nature here on earth, satan would never have bothered tempting Him as recorded in Matthew 4:1-11.

What is true is that the Lord Jesus Christ had to rely on the anointing of the Holy Spirit to lead Him through this life and this world of sin and that same grace is available to every human being that yields his or her life to Christ Jesus today.

The sinner who provokes others to sin should repent today before it is too late. The one provoked to sin should also repent because God is no respecter of persons.

God expects every human being to obey His commandments in the Holy Bible without question and to live by the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Unless you are in Christ, you cannot successfully live right in this life because eternal life is found in Christ ALONE.

Good deeds alone would not take you to heaven as some religious sects erroneously teach.

It is Christ alone that can take you to heaven as God has ordained – John 14:6.

The choice is yours, dear friend.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.
