HOW DO OTHERS VIEW YOU?

Titus 1:16 (AMPC)
They profess to know God [to recognize, perceive, and be acquainted with Him], but deny and disown and renounce Him by what they do; they are detestable and loathsome, unbelieving and disobedient and disloyal and rebellious, and [they are] unfit and worthless for good work (deed or enterprise) of any kind.”

Dear people of God, whenever I hear someone commending his character, one thing I tell him is that it is difficult for someone to OBJECTIVELY assess himself.

As a result of sycophancy as well, it is also difficult even these days to obtain an objective assessment of oneself from others.

However, if a number of people are complaining about the same person’s character and the person does not see anything wrong with his or her character, then something is definitely wrong.

Do others describe you as hostile? Unfriendly? Unkind? Untrustworthy? Unstable? Unreliable? Can you be trusted to handle the finances of an association? Can others trust you to keep your word on any matter however insignificant?

Can you be recommended to a sensitive position? Do you tell lies at will and not care a hoot?

I just read online a report of a known political figure that just passed away. Of the 3 comments on this person in the comments section, none was complimentary.

As a boss in the office, what do your colleagues and subordinates say about you? As a husband, what does your wife say about your character?

Is your husband happy to speak about you as a wife?

As a religious leader, what do your congregation say about you?

Do note that I am not referring to gossip, which is speaking about UNCONFIRMED facts about a person and portraying it to be true.

I am referring to a character trait that others have noticed about you over time and out of 20 people, 19 of them have the same opinion of you.

Dear friend, there is a popular saying that the voice of the people is the voice of God. This may not be true because some respond emotionally and not objectively when asked to comment about others’ character.

However, there is a need to assess your character against God’s Word in the Holy Bible and to immediately make corrections once a fault is detected.

This is why David prayed to God in Psalm 19:12-14, Who can discern his lapses and errors? Clear me from hidden [and unconscious] faults.

13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then shall I be blameless, and I shall be innocent and clear of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.”

This should be the prayer of every genuine child of God who wishes to depart this one and enter heaven.

Let God’s Word always be your yardstick for assessing your character.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.

Gabriel Ama.
