“David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord His God.”
Dear people of God, there are many issues in this world that cause distress for human beings. The most common one is money.
Another one is sickness. In today’s lead Holy Bible text, David and his men were distressed because their family were abducted by the Amalekites.
It is stated here that as part of the measures to resolve his problem, David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord His God.
David went further by enquiring of God what next to do and God told him to go after the Amalekites and that he would recover all he and his men had lost.
David did exactly what God told him and he recovered all as God had promised – 1 Samuel 30:7-19.
In today’s world unfortunately, many have a different approach to handling distress – they chose to rely on themselves and other human beings.
As a result, they compound their problems because there is a limit to what any human can do to help you and can even injure you greatly the more in the process.
Some seek for help from herbalists or voodoo priests, some seek help from others who take advantage of them and cause them more distress.
What you must know and understand is that your distress is caused by satan and his agents so running to satan’s agents (voodoo priests) to help you would never resolve anything for you.
The right thing to do is to encourage yourself in the Lord. How do you do this? Go into God’s Word and find out what it says concerning that PARTICULAR situation and do what it says.
Someone may ask, “how would I know where to turn to in God’s Word?” This you would do by asking God in prayer to show you where to read and what to do.
This is what David did and he got results. I however, want you to note the initial reaction of David’s men who wanted to stone David for their problems. That would not have solved the problem because their families would have remained in captivity.
Dear friend, learn to trust in God. Committing suicide is not the solution because it would land you in eternal damnation when you die as you cannot destroy what you did not create, which is your life.
God is the owner of your life. He loves you and that is why He sent the Lord Jesus Christ into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, to redeem mankind from the distresses caused by satan and his agents.
However, you can only overcome these distresses when you believe what Jesus Christ did for you and me and when you come to Him to accept Him as your Lord and Saviour.
Whenever you call to Jesus Christ, you can be sure that He would answer. His Word says so and when you live in righteous obedience to His commands in the Bible, then He would always guide you to provide a way out of every distress caused by satan and his agents.
You can see proof that God answered David when he inquired so the same God would answer you when you inquire of Him.
