CONFLICT OVER OWNERSHIP OF CHURCH OR CHURCH POSITIONS

 Ephesians 5:23-28
For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is the Head of the church, Himself the Saviour of [His] body.

24 As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands.

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her,

26 So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word,

27 That He might present the church to Himself in glorious splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such things [that she might be holy and faultless].

28 Even so husbands should love their wives as [being in a sense] their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.”

Dear people of God, the above Scriptures are self-explanatory. Unfortunately, not every Christian pays serious attention to God’s Word.

God has said He values the individual who is humble, of a contrite spirit and trembles at His Word – Isaiah 66:2.

Sometime in January 2020, I read the sad story of a Kenyan pastor that recently walked to the church altar to stab his wife during a Sunday service whilst prayer was ongoing with most eyes closed. The pastor then stabbed himself severally, slit his throat and died instantly whilst his wife died later on her way to the hospital.

It is reported that the couple were fighting over ownership of the church and were living separately for more than 2 years before this tragedy.

The man was bitter because both of them had started the church together but the woman later went behind to change the ownership of the church to her name only.

All in all, both of them died because of struggle over ownership of Church that belongs to God.

No matter what anyone says or thinks, every genuine church where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached belongs to Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, many church overseers believe it is by their own strength the church came to be and exist.

They fail to see that God appointed them for a purpose, which is contained in Acts 20:28, Take care and be on guard for yourselves and the whole flock over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you bishops and guardians, to shepherd (tend and feed and guide) the church of the Lord or of God, which He obtained for Himself [buying it and saving it for Himself] with His own blood.”

So, it is completely wrong for anyone to fight for leadership or ownership of a church. Your work as a Church leader or overseer is to spiritual care and guide the congregation in the things of God using His Word as reference, whilst paying attention to your own personal relationship with God.

I want to pass a very serious advice to married women because the fight for equality with men by women today goes contrary to God’s Word in Ephesians 5:23-24.

God will not change His Word to accommodate sentiments from any one or any group of people no matter how appealing the sentiments are.

Even if you as a woman are a boss or supervisor to your husband in the same organization, God says the man is the head of the woman in the home and in the public.

Even if you as the woman are earning more than the man is paid in employment or business, it does not change what God has said. Even if the man has lost his job or source of income and you are the one providing in the meantime, God’s Word remains the same.

On the other hand, a man who feels threatened by his wife earning more and is thus hostile to her to prove his headship of the home because of her submissiveness is not acting in line with God’s directive.

God says to love your wife, your woman, as He, God, loves the church. He further says to love your wife as your own body, and that the man who loves his wife loves himself.

The reverse is also true, which is, the man who hates his wife hates himself.

This advice is for a man and woman created by God as man and woman and who are legally married.

I have to explain this so that those who are having their own idea of who a man or woman is or what marriage is in their own mind contrary to what is the truth about marriage should understand that it does not apply to them because God created men and women and nobody has any right whatsoever to alter the natural flow as God created.

A Word is enough for the wise.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.

Gabriel Ama.
