Colossians 1:22-23 (AMPC)
“Yet now has [Christ, the Messiah] reconciled [you to God] in the body of His flesh through death, in order to present you holy and faultless and irreproachable in His [the Father's] presence.
23 [And this He will do] provided that you continue to stay with and in the faith [in Christ], well-grounded and settled and steadfast, not shifting or moving away from the hope [which rests on and is inspired by] the glad tidings (the Gospel), which you heard and which has been preached [as being designed for and offered without restrictions] to every person under heaven,”
Dear people of God, the Gospel of Christ Jesus is about preaching the Truth of the Good News to make people realise they have not been living right as far as God is concerned, genuine repentance from sin, confessing and forsaking sin, accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord and a committed life thereafter in righteousness and holy living.
The reason why a Christian should live an uncompromising life of righteous obedience to God’s command is because Jesus Christ our Lord is coming shortly to present His ready children holy and faultless and irreproachable before God’s presence.
This is clear in today’s lead Bible text.
Jesus cannot present a backslider into sin as holy to God because that would go against His righteous expectation of everyone who comes into His fold as a child of God and that would violate His Word in Colossians 1:22-23.
Therefore, the advocates of living under grace of God as a licence to commit sin are again shown from today’s Scripture to be in error and have a deep and urgent need to repent from their evil ways back to Christ Jesus before it is too late.
For those who say we have always heard about Christ’s imminent return and it is yet to happen after so long, see what God tells us in His Word in 2 Peter 3:3-4,9 (AMPC), “To begin with, you must know and understand this, that scoffers (mockers) will come in the last days with scoffing, [people who] walk after their own fleshly desires.
4 And say, where is the promise of His coming? For since the forefathers fell asleep, all things have continued exactly as they did from the beginning of creation.
9 The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people's conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.”
Dear friend, do not allow any false preacher or parson or teacher or apostle or pastor or prophet or brother or sister deceive you into believing that once you are in Christ, God overlooks every sin you commit thereafter because God sees Jesus Christ when He looks at you.
You cannot see any Scripture to back this false submission from the agents of the devil because God never overlooks sin and ALL wrongdoing is sin – 1 John 5:17a.
God is Holy and He has commanded us in Matthew 5:48, “You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect. [Lev. 19:2, 18.]”
There is absolutely no excuse for a Christian to live in a hypocritical double life of sin.
