“You have spent enough time in the past doing what the heathen like to do. Your lives were spent in indecency, lust, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and the disgusting worship of idols.
4 And now the heathen are surprised when you do not join them in the same wild and reckless living, and so they insult you.
5 But they will have to give an account of themselves to God, Who is ready to judge the living and the dead.”
Dear people of God, when anyone encounters Jesus, believes, repents genuinely and accepts Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord of his life, a new Spirit takes over the person as he becomes a new creation in Jesus Christ – 2 Corinthians 5:17.
However, because the person is still a baby Christian, the devil makes an effort using the new Christian’s friends to try to pull him back into a previous lifestyle of sin and immorality.
When the new Christian refuses to join his former friends in their reckless and immoral lifestyle, some of them as we are told in today’s main Holy Bible text resort to using insults still as a way of trying to convince the Christian to return to their fold.
We are told today that such aggressive unbelievers would give an account of their actions to God Who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
Even the last word in the previous verse of Scripture is evidence that dead people are somewhere else still in existence and awaiting God’s final judgement. So death is NOT the end as some people think or believe.
The first thing a born again Christian should do is cut himself off the association of his former friends because they could lure him back to their immoral fold if he fails to find and associate with a genuine Christian as mentor in spiritual matters of the faith of Jesus Christ.
The new Christian must make Jesus Christ Lord of his life by ensuring to engage in activities that build him spiritually, e.g., attending Church programs, Bible study and meditation, listening to gospel songs (not all songs qualify as gospel) that edify the spirit.
There is real danger here because the devil has raised an army of ignorant individuals to promote immorality as part of the gospel using music and dance that is clearly unacceptable to Jesus Christ.
That an artiste claims to be singing gospel music does not make it acceptable to God. The music MUST clearly be heard to be talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and should not contain beats that are same as worldly or secular music.
There are foul spirits behind secular music and any music that has the same beats as secular music even if the artiste claims to be a gospel singer and these foul spirits pollute the minds of whoever listens to them.
Any music that claims to be gospel with rap, reggae and rock in it is NOT acceptable to God. So the new Christian must avoid such and listen to strictly gospel music.
The new Christian must enlist the help of God through the Holy Spirit to guide and guard him against the hidden dangers the devil and his agents are throwing all over the place to lure unsuspecting people into their evil den.
The new Christian must therefore watch the company he keeps, the places he visits, the music he listens to, the literature he reads, the movies he watches, the clothes he wears especially the womenfolk.
As we are told in James 4:7-8a, “So then, submit to God. Resist the Devil, and he will run away from you. 8 Come near to God, and He will come near to you.”
It is God’s Word (Sword of the Spirit) that contains the power to save your soul against the devil’s onslaught, so focus on it through study, meditation, confession and obedience to God’s commandments.
This way, you will avoid trouble for your soul, stand strong and firm in Christ Jesus and take the Gospel to others who would see the light of Christ in you and give glory to God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
